It's back. I got it back.

[This is the same story, told through three completely different styles.]

The Haiku

Dark crying worries child
Women’s palm touches stomach
The loss connects all

The Rainbow

In the bedroom, the one with the blue carpet, sat a woman on a simple green stool. She held in her hands the hands of her husband who knelt before her. They were weak beings, made weaker by their dismal surroundings. The pink triple-drawered dresser against the west wall oddly contrasted the dark carpet. In the yellowish light passing through the window, the two sets of eyes shone red and puffy; they were drying. A small girl stool in the doorway, open-mouthed. Small lights glinted orange in the girl’s wide eyes. The room’s deadly, violet glow upset the girl because the brightness was gone. The room felt barren. The beings took on the room’s characteristic.

The Play

West Wall: The room is dark today.
East Wall: Yes. More so than usual.
West Wall: What do you make of it.
East Wall: We mustn’t assume the worst.
Dresser: Worst? What worst?
West Wall: Nothing dear.
East Wall: It’s not nothing. Nothing is…nothing.
West Wall: The woman, she weeps.
Stool: Her posture is sacrificed today, I can tell.
West Wall: What’s that you say?
Stool: She’s slouching, I say.
West Wall: Oh. (Pause.) And the man. Is he all right?
Stool: He frowns. You can see by the way his head hangs low. He seems distressed.
East Wall: Drained is not like it.
West Wall: Drained, yes drained.
East Wall: The Child, she’s back.
West Wall: She doesn’t understand.
Dresser: I don’t understand…
Curtain (Wakes Up): Hmph…Oh, I drifted off. It is dark in here today, is it not?
West Wall: Yes.
Dresser: The child is confused.
Stool: The man, now he’s crying too.
Carpet: His tears sink into me.
Dresser: I’m confused.
East Wall: There is nothing to worry about.
West Wall: It is growing darker. Curtain, can you do something about the darkness?
Curtain: I am weak, sleepy. Not now.
West Wall: Suit yourself then. We will live in darkness.
Carpet: Their weight shifts. I think they are swaying.
Dresser: Swaying?
Carpet: Rocking, or something.
East Wall: There is no life in this room. Curtain, you’re fading.
Curtain: Sadly, yes.
East Wall: Look, the child needs protection.
West Wall: She weeps. She weeps as well.
