poem mantra ode to the rainforest

Aug 14, 2006 21:40

this is the rest (unless I expand it)

I am a rainbow boa, a dazzling whirlwind of calico.
I am the spotted jaguar and the tamarin and the tananger,
The orb weaver and the river otter.
I am the orchid; I am the ceiba
The fern, ficus, and heliconia
I am the sun that burn and the rain that floods;
The heat that broils and the mist that coils.
I am the air you breath
And the hiss of the leaves:
I am the earth and sky.
I am alive.

I'm not really as big of a hippy as all that may lead you to believe. I just really love biology. Today as I watched an orangutan move through a tree I was struck by the incredible, mind-numbingly beauty of our world.

If I could do the job I am doing right now for the rest of my life (and, you know, get paid) I would be happy. This summer has been amazing. The internship is sublime.
