So a couple who was taking a walk asked my mom if we were missing our turtle. My mom says, "Yes" because our turtle constantly gets lost when she goes for walks, but usually ends up hiding in a corner less than 2 feet where she started the walk.
Anyway, my mom takes the turtle and takes one look at it and said, "Oops- this isn't our turtle!" The couple says that they asked our neighbors and they said they didn't own a turtle.
So the turtle is with us. It has a beautiful shell and it is a box turtle like the one we own. We'd put them in the same "home" for now but we don't know if this stray turtle is carrying any disease. The turtle was very dehydrated and dirty so we gave him a bath and he drank lots of water. He had a timely and effective pharyngeal swallow. ;-) The larynx was elevated and the hyoid bone moved both anteriorly and superiorly. Good oral phase as well- no anterior spillage.
This turtle is a lot more active and in shape than our other turtle.
So please ask around if anyone is missing their box turtle, for we will give it away to our accountant (who was on the phone with my mom while she was given the stray turtle).
Gosh- if my parents' house wasn't crowded enough as is...
