TITLE: Who have you met, and what have you learned?
FANDOM: Meet The Robinsons
SUBJECT: Here are three reasons why you should give this movie a shot.
NOTES: Made for scifiverse's 31st challenge (in Phase 2).

WHO HAVE YOU MET, AND WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?
Also, Why Watch Meet The Robinsons?

Reason #03: The Ensemble

Franny: Just a little tip for the future, I am always right. Even when I'm wrong, I'm right.

I'm big on characters - I mean, decades from now when you've forgotten the title of a book or movie, what you're going to remember are the characters. And the ones you'll meet in this film are the kind you're going to reference to, believe me. (You'll say, "Remember the one with the lady who made her frogs sing?") Wilbur and Franny are my personal favorites; the former because of his smooth-talking dorkiness and the latter because she's weird and wonderful in the way only mothers are. Of course, it'll take more than one film to get into everything about a character though, and by the end of it you'll still be craving to know more about the family. But hey, that's what fandom's for.

Reason #02: The Adventure

T-Rex: I have a big head and little arms. I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through.

You have this genius kid who wants a family, then he's shipped off into the future where he does meet one - only, it isn't the kind he had in mind. You follow his relationships with the people around him, how he's treated, how the craving for a real home consumes him. And how can you not relate with that? You also have a villain, whose intentions are questionable enough because he probably hasn't thought things through. Or has he? Along with the characters, you have a story that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you want to watch it over and over again. I know it's not one of those Disney princess movies - which I personally love, by the way - but there's still something inherently Disney about it. Think A Goofy Movie and Bedknobs and Broomsticks journey-wise, sort of.

Reason #01: The Message

Lewis: Why would his motto be keep moving forward?
Wilbur: It's what he does.

What really appeals to me is the theme, its pure optimism. You hear it from Wilbur and how he talks about his family, then you hear it from the rest of them. You make a mistake and deal with it. You keep moving forward. But what does this have to do with Lewis' desire to have a family anyway? Well, you're going to have to watch to find out. I know the film's pretty straightforward as it was meant for a general audience, especially children, but it's got layers and layers of character development, too. (And I don't just mean for Lewis.) That said, you'll be feeling pretty good about yourself by the end of it. And I think that says it all.
