"Life is Pain, Highness"

Sometimes I am just at a loss. But first, the good stuffs:

We had a very good weekend this weekend. Tom and I had date-night on Friday. We watched "Peter Pan" which we've owned for awhile, but not seen. It's the new CG version. Very pretty.

Saturday we attempted to go to Architectural Salvage. After sleeping in, we met up with Elly and Kevin and ate at Jun's for lunch (yummy sushi) and then Kevin valiantly drove us downtown.... and straight into: "ROCKFEST" Oh, boy. Traffic was a mash, there were shirtless people everywhere, and there was little to no observation of the simple traffic rules that keep us all alive and well. We got close to A.S. - we were sitting in the street right outside it, in fact - but there was no parking and things were dissolving into anarchy, so we made an escape while there was an escape to be made. Instead we went to a nifty little street of shops that Elly and Kevin had discovered at some point. It was fun to wander through and look at free trade items and art displays. Even if I couldn't really afford most of it. We looked through a really cool toy store that I'll have to remember. They had all kinds of cool stuff.
After shopping and ice cream, Tom and I headed home. I took a nap (the bright sun made my head hurt) while Tom went and got the oil changed in the VW. Then we had some dinner, braved WalMart for our shopping list [note: it makes me happy that LJ's spell check does not recognize 'WalMart.' Of course, if I hypenated it, that would be different perhaps], and did some work on the bathroom ceiling.

Sunday we slept in some, though not as late as Saturday, and after I made some returns at Wally-world, we got to work and finished the ceiling. I have been asked how one gets a new ceiling and the answer is this: tiles. We bought ceiling tiles - they're kinda sorta styrofoam-y, lightweight, tongue-in-groove lock-together style. The surface is pressed into a texture. In our case, sorta swirlies. We got liquid nail, and stuck them to the ceiling. It was both easy and difficult. Easy, read: much better than putting wet joint compound up there and getting joint compound splatters everywhere. Difficult, read: measuring and cutting edge tiles, visualizing which direction to turn the tiles, and getting slightly touchy with one another when we felt the other didn't think we knew what we were doing. Overall, I feel it went well. Much better than it could have gone with the joint compound.

Oh! And this weekend, my orchid that Elly and Kevin got me for my birthday opened another bloom! I am very excited. :D

You know, I typed all that, and it is such a pretty happy post that I don't want to mar it. Perhaps I will write a separate post with all the angst. Perhaps not.
