I am looking for a column written by Dave Eggers in the June 04 issue of Spin Magazine about his love for Joanna Newsom. Does anyone have it lying around, maybe under their couch? I love Joanna Newsom & I love Dave Eggers for making the point about which strange female artists we accept and love - the beautiful ones!

Here is a quote:

that story seems to have vanished into the deep dark well of the internet. i find it odd that spin has a bunch of old eggers columns archived on their site, but not that one. and i found a blog that had a link to a supposed Guardian UK reprint, but the link was broken, and no web search turned up a cached version of that link when it was working. bah. now i want to read it, too!

yes - it is frustrating when you know that pages that once existed have now been deleted and only sometimes do cached versions exist.

i am also looking for an article written in the june 04 music issue of The Believer & can't believe that of all magazines they don't seem to have an online archive of any sort - too much information easily accessed & now i become impatient when i know what i want & cannot get it without time, work & money.

Hey, why don't you go to your local library and see if they have either that Spin on their racks, or if they offer Spin with their electronic journals. It's worth a try, you know?

I hate when people post really basic requests on livejournal - stuff they could easily find themselves with a minimum of effort. Its so lazy! That being said - I did check the DC library website & unless I missed something on the different searches I tried they do not subscribe to any form of Spin magazine. It would also be nice if they subscribed to the Believer - but my observations have time & time again confirmed my belief that the DC library is sort of out of date. ( Although I still love them, and always leave with a stack )

Here's an int I did with her if you're interested. I only had about 20 minutes to talk to her, but there's a few interesting things in it...

I really like what she had to say about songwriting, about listening to Appalachian folk music where the singers have great emotion and beauty in their unconventional voices. You got alot out of her in 20 min.
