New fandoms are awesome, especially when the fanfic is like this rec

I'm sure some of you know about Sherlock, the BBC's modern-day version of Sherlock Holmes, and I kept putting it off because it didn't necessarily sound like my kind of thing, and I had other stuff to do/watch (ie, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Farscape, Inception). I also thought the "season" was longer than it turned out to be (3 x 1.5 hour episodes), and anyway now I've watched them.

Basically, Sherlock is a high functioning sociopath (and they do mean *sociopath*, and that is cool to see), and John Watson is pretty much the picture of honour and kick ass (I love John, you have no idea), and the boys are still pretty much boyfriends (or old married couple?) as usual. The first and third episodes are my favourites; the second was kind of unimpressive.

That's not the point. THE POINT is the fanfic, especially that by wordstrings, whose portrayal of a sociopath in ~love is pretty much the most awesome thing in my life right now, and had me cracking up on the bus, during class breaks, and more than occasionally during class when I remembered something, so I had to hide my stupid, slightly crazy grin that wanted to wobble over into hysterical laughter. And it is madly funny, but it's also just awesome.

If you want to read, the three fics (so far! hopefully! my schoolwork will probably suffer if there's more, but I *need* fic like this in my life) can be found here, starting with An Act of Charity, though it's Death of the English Language that had me helplessly falling out of my chair so regularly.

They are Sherlock/John, if slash isn't at all your cup of tea, but I recommend this as strongly as I possibly can; if you aren't in the fandom, I don't there is anything that is omg!unknown!fandom!, beyond what I've spazzed about here. And when you reading, you get things like Sherlock's list of things that are Fine and Not Fine, and a pretty solid rendition of a sociopath with some sort-of-but-not-like-normal-people's feelings (but not many). Also, John, who might be a bit mad hatter himself, but is still so good <3

Another good thing about this fandom? A weekly rec round up at sherlockbbc. A+, fandom.

edit: in other new!tv news, if you want HBIC's? The Pillars of the Earth miniseries, where they have Aliena, Ellen, Princess Empress Maude ("we re-christened ourselves this morning"), Lady Regan (who is evil, but awesome in a Lady Macbeth way), all of whom are amazing and very definitely In Charge; also, there's Jack, Phillip (<3!), and Martha and little Jonathan who are adorable.

Justified? Also very, very awesome. Finally finished season 1, and yesss. When is season 2 coming out?
