Do you remember As...
The sky opened up to freedom
The sun commanded our journeys
The trees urged us onwards
The river called us by
We stood there open eyed…
Too young to hold the wheel
Too naïve for the salesman
Too comfortable in dirt
Too happy being soaked
That’s when …
when we didn’t belong to anyone,
when there were no laws to abide to,
when life was about the living we do
and nothing else needed to be done.
Our worries blown away by the wind...
What matters was whether it rained or shined.
Whether we were gonna make it through without falling in.
Whether there was a magic world on the other side
Not that we were condemned by our sins.
Do you remember …
Now I remember ..
As the wind strikes my cheeks
As the sun calls out for embrace
As the sky ponders my choices
As the trees wave by
and As the river turns away
I remember the shade of a summer day.
I don’t know what else to do
But let patience show its virtues
Maybe those days will just stay in my heart
As I take control of these wheels and drive onward in this old cart.
