TITLE: Drabble 2 (AKA My Poor Back Part 1)
RATING: PG-13
SUMMARY: A different take on what happened when Dr. Cox hurt his back.
AUTHORESS' NOTES: This idea was too long to fit into just one Drabble... Will be at least a two parter.

“Hey look, Ghandi... Now just because you broke out your little Fisher Price Surgery Set and somehow managed to nawt kill somebody for once doesn't mean you're queen of the world,” Dr. Cox said as he walked out and caught the basketball that Turk had let fly off the hoop. JD was sort of trailing behind, but rather than get involved, he hopped over the railing of the exit ramp and decided to sit and watch.

“You think you could do better old man?” Turk challenged with a smirk.

“Watch and learn,” Dr. Cox spun the ball on his fingers and ran towards the hoop. As he started to run JD heard a heroic/romantic song start to play in his head.

Dr. Cox leaped and raised his arms.... and sunk a perfect slam dunk. He hung on the rim triumphantly.

“How's THAT taste? Is it... delicious?” Dr. Cox gloated from his perch on the hoop. He jumped down... and JD could've sworn he'd heard a faint cracking sound.

“Are you okay?” Carla asked, having possibly heard it too.

“C'mon. I'm simply... posing so your boyfriend can get a picture of me for his 'people who make me feel like a little girl' scrapbook,” Dr. Cox raised his arms and made a 'ta da' kind of sound.

“Let's go,” Turk put his arms around Carla and led her off.

Dr. cox whimpered.

“Newbie?” Dr. cox called pathetically.

“Um... yeah Dr. Cox?” JD asked, tilting his head in curiosity.

“Help.” JD watched as Dr. Cox hobbled a couple steps and leaned on the pole of the basketball hoop. When JD just sat there Dr. Cox whistled and scowled. “Newbie!”

“You threw out your back didn't you?” Dr. Cox's scowl turned into a glare.

“Don't make me kill you Sheila.” JD hopped up and helped Dr. Cox into the building.

“Dr. Cox... I don't think this is gonna fool anyone,” JD said as they walked down the hallway, Dr. Cox leaning heavily on JD, disguising it as a friendly arm over the shoulder.

“Of course it will Charlotte, I'm always feeling you up as we're walking down the halls,” Dr. Cox explained.. JD thought back and realized that true, though Dr. Cox had rarely ever given him a pat on the back he'd always been quick to sling his arm over JD's shoulders, particularly when they were going from point A to point B.

“Yeah, why is that?” JD asked before he could stop himself. Dr. Cox actually halted his gait, almost being tipped off balance when JD continued for half a step. Dr. Cox just raised an eyebrow when JD looked back at him. “Yeah, yeah, stupid question...”

It was hardly a secret in the hospital that Dr. Cox and JD were sort of at the outskirts of a relationship. They'd been trying valiantly to have hot sweaty and/or penetrative sex, but every time the sex seemed impending they always got interrupted by one thing or another. The most memorable of which, in JD's reckoning, being the time they'd been all hot and heavy and completely naked up near the roof on their break and two of their joint patients had coded at the same time. The resulting scene was what tipped the rest of the hospital off towards their relationship.

“Hey, Dr. Cox, hey Bambi,” Carla said as they came up to the nurse's station. “So Dr. Cox, how's your back?” she asked as she handed JD a chart and leaned forward.

“My back? Why ever do you ask Carla?” Dr. Cox let go of JD and leaned on on the counter casually instead. Carla smirked.

“Oh please, you're not fooling anyone. The only time you're ever touching Bambi for so long is when you've got that look in your eye that says 'I'm so horny, if I don't get off right now some poor intern is going to die'.” Carla continued to smirk as she grabbed some files and came around the desk.

“Oh please. I would never refer to any intern as anything other that 'annoying'.” Dr. Cox replied.

“It's surprising how very many interns are still alive considering-”

“Ah-ah-ah Shirley,” Dr. Cox interrupted. JD shut up. Carla just raised an eyebrow and put a hand on her hip.

“Okay, I skimmed through your address book and found you have a chiropractor. I called him, and he's got an opening tomorrow, we're going,” JD came back into the bedroom, still holding the phone.

“Dammit Newbie, I'll be fine in a couple days. I don't need a chiropractor,” Dr. Cox growled as he eased slowly into the bed. JD rolled his eyes, marched over, and pushed Dr. Cox off balance so he fell onto the bed. “Aow!” Dr. Cox glared up at JD.

“You're going to the chiropractor,” JD got on the bed on his knees and crawled over to Dr. Cox, straddling his hips. “At the rate we're going we'll be lucky to ever have sex. We'll both just die of blue balls,” JD started to tilt his head.

“Aye!! Seriously Newbie, don't you dare go off into your head.” Dr. Cox wriggled his hips and grinned hopefully. JD looked down at him and snorted. Dr. Cox frowned. “What?”

“You really think this is gonna happen? No way can you have hot sweaty passionate gay sex for the first time with your back like that,” JD rocked his hips anyway.

“Oh please, are you suggesting that you're such a demanding lover that I can't keep up?”

“Well... I have been around this block before,” JD commented.

Dr. Cox just glared at him. His inexperience in this area was a sore spot that he didn't like when JD shed light on it. He growled and, momentarily forgetting his wounded back, flipped JD down onto the mattress.

Outside the only sound for a block was a blood curdling scream.
