Well yesterday was exciting! First of all my hubby and I planned to go canoeing to celebrate being out of college for the summer. I haven’t been canoeing since I was a kid. I think the last time I went I was about 12 or 13 years old. So we went yesterday-it was a blast! The water was so clear! I had thought about bringing my camera-but since it was my first time canoeing in a long time I didn’t want to chance getting the camera wet-I’m going to have to bring a waterproof one next time because it was just lovely out there.  For most of the trip we could see all the way to the bottom of the river, though since we’ve been in a drought in some places that was only a few feet at times. But we saw tons of turtles, cat-fish, brim and gar. Saw some bass, but not a lot. One small gator, 2 pileated woodpeckers, 1 limpkin, 1 Carolina wren, 1 HUGE red tail hawk, 1 green heron, and 2 little blue herons, also saw some bear tracks, deer markings, and 3 juvenile raccoons.

We also had the “good fortune” to be the first ones out on the river that morning-during the night a rather large tree had fallen across the river blocking most of it. To get through we had to maneuver through a curtain of branches. For a minute or two I thought we were stuck. Many of the branches were too thick to snap by hand-and it wasn’t like we had brought a hand saw with us. But it was exciting all the same. A group of college kids came behind us and cleared more if it out of the way. One of the college kids I wanted to smack with my paddle though. We were often about a half mile in front of them, but we could hear her voice all the way down the river, “OMG there’s a BUG IN MY HAIR!” and such for a while. But luckily they went down a side tributary after a while and we could no longer hear her.

Anyways I hope to go back soon. It was a lot of fun.

Then we got home and took a nap. Got the kids off the bus and were planning on running some errands. As we were going down the stairs we noticed several of our neighbors crowded around the back sun deck (we live in an apartment complex) apparently there was a little stray kitten under the deck and it looked way to young to survive on his own. But he was way back under the sun deck. Anyways I was elected to go under the deck to see if I could get him. So armed with only a piece of a hot dog and one of my hubby’s old T-shirts I went under and was able to catch the little squirt.  At first he wailed and hissed and tried to claw me through the shirt, but after a while he clamed down. So now I have a kitten. He’s so tiny. I think he can not be more than 6 or 8 weeks old. He’s able to eat soft cat food. And he’s looks fluffy but he’s all skin in bones. We haven’t decided if we are going to keep him or not, but we couldn’t just turn him back lose to starve in the woods behind the apartments. But I thought I’d share some fuzzy kitten goodness:
