he takes a sip of his coffee and scrunches his nose at the bitter aftertaste. he wants to leave the almost-untouched cup of coffee there and leave, but he decides against it. it would be rude after all. setting the cup back onto the table, he looks out of the window, hand on his chin. he doesn’t expect to see anything out of the ordinary today, he’d been doing the same thing, replaying the same routine every day - it’s morning, noon, then night, and morning, noon, then night; rinse and repeat. every day it was the same monotonous routine; he’d learned to adapt to the quiet of this new town.

then a flash of red goes by, disappears past his eyes and he’s surprised at the fresh burst of color he sees - everyone in the town seemed to favour monochrome colors - except for him of course.

without a second thought, he pushes his chair back and in his flurry to leave, he knocks his knee against the chair and almost trips over its legs. cursing at his own clumsiness, he dashes out of the door... only to see the color fade away at the corner of the street. disappointed, he walks back into the cafe, sits back at the seat he was sitting at before and takes a sip of his coffee. somehow, it doesn’t taste bitter this time.

soon, it is morning again. he sits at the same old seat he sits at every single day, orders the same old thing and looks out of the window, expecting to see the same old things... except something within tells him that he wants to see that bright spark of color again. but he doesn’t think he’ll see it again. rinse and repeat - it’s always been the same, hasn’t it? disappointment after disappointment.

he looks out of the window, hand on his chin. and suddenly, he sees a splash of blue pass him and he doesn’t want to miss it this time. hastily, he pushes his chair back and this time, he doesn’t knock his knee against his chair, he doesn’t almost trip, all he’s thinking is that he needs to capture that beautiful azure that’d just flickered by him.

he races out of the door, pushing the door with almost brute force - the shopkeeper shouts, ranting a complain - but he doesn’t care any more, all he does is run. he thinks he’s smiling like a fool but nothing matters to him at this moment.

finally, he catches up. he grabs the stranger’s arm - he falls in love straightaway. he’d never felt like this before, heart racing, head light with bliss - it wasn’t because he’d just ran so far just to catch one splash of color, he’s in love and he’s sure of it. but when the stranger turns to face him, he’s at a loss for words.

“h-hi...” he stutters nervously in front of the handsome stranger.

and the other smiles, perfectly straight teeth wide in a curve. “hey.”

he breathes in deep, “my name is jaejoong and i couldn’t help but notice your...”

“my color.” the other finishes his sentence and nods in understanding - they know what each other mean.

he nods and stretches a hand out, “hi, i’m kim jaejoong and i think i’m in love with... you.”

“i’m jung yunho and yeah, i think so too.”

a/n: i wrote this on the train ride home, it took me just a little less than an hour. honestly i didn't know what i was writing, but i'm glad it turned out this way. i like it and i hope you like it too? ♥
