Maou Character Development

As much as I love Ohno and am blown away by his incredible acting ability in "Maou", I have to mention how impressed I am by Toma. After watching episode 4, I was caught up in the emotions that Naoto goes though- its though I felt as he did. His anger, his sadness, his fear and especially his frustration... it all seems tangible. Kudos to Toma for doing such a good job. Though the ratings are lower than expected, I really hope Toma the underappreciated really gets the recognition he deserves.

Having said that, I'm still left speechless over how well my beloved Ohno has done in portraying the devil. I didn't know that our dear Leader who is notorious for spacing out and mumbling could play this evil role with such clarity. I think part of the reason I'm mesmerized with Toma right now is because we haven't seen as wide a range of emotions from Ryo as we have seen from Naoto. Ryo comes off as angelic and evil with such conviction, and he has the same calm demeanor each time. But I'd like to see some variety and I can't wait to see him lose control like Naoto has. I'm sure that's to come though, and I can't wait to see that happen.

In some of the reviews that I've read, some people seem to dislike Toma's character and find him irritating or annoying. I think it's the complete opposite. From my perspective, he embodies that character who is struggling with his past and his present, and he does it well. I feel sorry for Naoto. As a viewer, am I supposed to? I don't know...but l can't wait to find out.
