So the hiatus is over, I did my
twenty-one ficlets and all... but I didn't want to stop ;) So I'm not! I want to see how long I can keep this up, one every day, so off we go :)
Also, some of them will be series, not related to one another but tied together by a common element. This first series I've called the "Mix Mash" series. I put the names of 18 Glee characters in a box, pulled them out in pairs, some odder than others, to write a ficlet over.
Today: Mix Mash 6 of 9: Artie & Matt
"BRIDGE"
Artie & Matt
Artie always felt like he was stuck in his own private earthquake when they would pick him and his chair up to carry him in and out of the auditorium. He was just glad when it was over.
On this one day, as the whole club had walked out - and he’d been carried out - on Mr. Schuester and Coach Sylvester, he’d been set down as the group began to disperse. He watched Tina go off with Mercedes, so he turned to start toward his locker.
“Hey, Artie, wait up.” He turned his chair around to find Matt coming toward him. He waited for him to catch up. “Can we talk?” Matt asked.
“Uh… yeah,” Artie looked around. He’d never known Matt as much of a talker, especially where he was concerned. They moved off to where Matt could get a seat.
“I wanted to say that… I know we weren’t too good to… We were jerks,” he finally said. Artie was surprised at this. He couldn’t deny it, but it was still not what he had expected to hear. Neither was the next part. “Sorry,” his eyes didn’t quite meet Artie’s. After a silent moment…
“Thank you,” Artie nodded. Matt looked at him, nodded back. Artie turned to look at the door to the auditorium. “How long do you think it’ll be before it’s safe to go in there?” he turned to Matt. Neither of them seemed interested to step in between Schuester and Sylvester.
“I wouldn’t go near that door if you paid me,” Matt ‘shook with fear.’
“Yeah… it’s just that my guitar’s in there. I wanted to work on some stuff.” Matt had a smirk. “What?”
“Meet me in the rehearsal room, two minutes,” he called before taking off down the hall. Artie looked around, ever more confused by what was happening. Still, he headed to the rehearsal room.
All of them in Glee Club had grown closer with the passing weeks. Still, there was that divide… the jocks and the Cheerios, and then… the rest of them. It was becoming more evident though… the divide was beginning to fade, and now they could start to see each other.
Shortly after he made it to the rehearsal room, Matt came along, carrying a guitar case. “You play too?” Artie asked, surprised. Matt shrugged with a smirk.
“Barely. I only started lessons a few weeks ago. I thought it might be good,” he shrugged. “Anyway, here,” he opened the case and handed the guitar to Artie.
“Thank you,” he nodded. He plucked a few of the guitar strings. For a moment, Matt just stood around as Artie played.
“How long have you been playing?”
“A few years,” he nodded. “Almost five,” he counted. “Always wanted to play, I guess. Then my mother signed me up for lessons.”
“Right,” he nodded. “I should go, I need to get home. But you hold to it, alright?” he pointed to the guitar.
“Are you sure?” Artie asked.
“Yeah, you put it to good use,” Matt nodded before heading off. Artie watched him go, nodding to himself as he played the guitar’s strings. The divide was growing dimmer and dimmer.
