My newly completed room... now with curtains!

So at last, a couple days ago, I finished with the room cleaning! Still, there was one final thing standing between me and getting to do my pictures of this here new room, and that was a trip to Ikea, to get my curtains... well, it ended up only starting there...

Yesterday after lunch, my mother's friend from work came, and we all headed to Ikea. We got my curtains, a couple storage boxes for under my bed, and some little boxes that go in one of my dresser drawers for organizin' and stuff, as well as place mats for the kitchen table and a couple of little tables for the balconies (one out front, one out back). My mom's friend also picked up this set of dishes for a girl they work with, 6 covers, 15$.

So we came home, started by removing my old curtains (which I had put up via the hooks left behind by former tenants, as a temporary thing until we got these. So first up we removed all the hooks, which of course revealed lovely unpainted spots. Thankfully we still have the paint cans left over from when the place was painted, so I was able to do the needed touch ups. We SHOULD have started (me and my mom's friend) on the hanging of the pieces for the curtains right away after that (as after dinner we were heading to the theater to see Harry Potter, but then I could see my mother really wanted to get her tables, so we started putting them together. So then it came time for dinner, and soon after we had to head off for the 7pm showing.

After the movie, we came back (at this point it was after 10) and the two of us started on the hanging of the thing, while my mother was tasked with starting on the cutting and border fixing. That didn't advance very fast, which was just as well, 'cause we didn't get to finish. We started with the middle piece (for support), then did the piece on the right. So far so good, even if our hands were seriously hurting. So then it came time for the third and last piece. Now with the other two pieces, we'd had to work to get the screws in, but with the third one, it was like real easy, which was weird, and we realized why when I went to tighten the thing to make the cable straight and ready to support the curtains with the little hooks that would go on the wire. As I tightened the thing, I heard this sort of cracking noise and I realize the third bit is pulling out... along with a bit of wall! I hurried to untighten, and after that (at which point it was nearing midnight) we were both too tired to really find a solution. So my mother's friend went home and I went to bed.

This morning, I had a plan of action. I would carefully remove the piece from the wall, making sure the wall wouldn't come with. After that, I put some tape to keep things in place, and went to get the paint, covering up the whole bit there. It looks a little bumpy, but it's hardly noticeable (plus who has a tendency to go in a room and look up in the corners?). So victory there! Meanwhile, I still had to deal with the third bit. Again, I knew what I had to do. Since it's the kind of thing that can go straight or at an angle, I put this one at an angle (on the same wall with the middle support rather than on the wall opposite to the first bit (on the right). I checked, confirmed that the wall there was the same as the part that broke.

So I headed to Canadian Tire, and got them to help me find the right screws and anchors, and also got this little tool thing to help me make the holes for the anchors. Came home, and did all that, and it worked! Now all I needed were the curtains! Momsie took care of those, fixing up the borders. Then with one of the panels' leftovers from the cut I made little sashes with velcro to tie the curtains open nice and neat.

And voila! My room is now all set! And I have the pictures to show! :D

The curtains! (You can't see, but there's nice little gray flowers and such. Brings out certain tones in my walls and the bed spread) The bed! (Made special for the pics ;))

This desk used to be in the office, but now that the puter is in my room, we switched the desks. I'm so glad 'cause my L-shaped one looks much better in the office room, and it would have been too crowded with it here anyway. And then there's the dresser, which is new, and replacing my old one which had been painted so many times, and that I'd had since I was like three or four years old. (The dresser was assembled by me and my mom's friend, again, so helpful!) I really want to get something to put above the dresser, maybe I'll go out looking for something, or I could wait for when the thing where they sell posters passes through uni this fall... (Also, you can see one of my proud little ideas at work. We had this big green box from Simon's and I was like 'I wonder if it would fit on the shelves on the desk...' And it did! I always hated that putting stuff in there was so complicated. It's really deep, so... yeah... but now with the box I can just pull it and I have stuff in there! ;))

So the way my room is set up, can't really get a night stand in there, so I have this shelf thing. It used to be in our old bathroom (where we had no shelving really. But here we have shelving for an army so I was able to put it to good use elsewhere! And as you can see there, it's the new iPod, to replace the one that was stolen in the move along with my cam... It's called Red-y, Set, Go! :D

Okay, this is really just another angle to give a better idea ;) But you can see what I was saying about wanting something above the dresser ;)

I loooove my new closet's doors. I was getting so sick of dealing with the histrionics of doors on wheels that would always fall off their rails and I'd have to put back in place *sigh* So happy to be rid of that! Then the book shelf, not stuck in a corner like it ended up being after I stupidly moved my furniture around back at the old place... And then the cupboard is also new, replacing the old one which had also been repainted several times and was just becoming annoying. But now the old one is in the office room, and it's so good 'cause I was able to store so much stuff in there that would otherwise have been stuck to clog up the space in my closet again... I still haven't managed to deal with the doors to make them lined up properly, but I don't care anymore... On top there you can see the four canvases stacked. I got those to reproduce the little artsy makeover I'd given to the top of my old dresser. I was fine with giving it away but I really wanted to keep the thing I'd done on there. So I took pictures and at some point I'll get on with the actual painting :)

Again, angle... in here my CD towers aren't trapped in odd and/or problematic places, weee! I also have a couple of CD racks, inside the cupboard...

The closet! So yes I still have boxes stacked in there, but I managed to make them more neat and orderly. And then the floor of the closet is not a mess either stacked with big boxes and all. It has little stuff, and I can actually put my shoes in there, within view! Also, such a nice change from my old place's closet. The old one, it was really deep, and the bar was at the back, also it was hard to put the hangers on the bar or to pull them out, 'cause the shelf was weighed and would touch the bar. But here, it's not deep, the bar is fine, and there's space on the sides! So on the left I put my clothes hamper, and on the right...

... this nice little space! I could so sit in there if I didn't want to be disturbed... and had a flashlight ;) And I put my board there 'cause... I don't know, I didn't want it on the wall, and I like it like that. I had to remove and relocate the hooks, but that was easy enough.

And there's the door, with its brand new stopper which I bought and installed today, 'cause when the door would open it would hit the wall and it chipped the paint (I gave it a touch up too so it's fine now :D) And that's it, so...

The end! :D
