Two new ones (newish)

Ive lost track of what I've put here and don't feel like cross checking right now, but here are a couple of newish they have been in the incomplete pile for a while and I've just finished them up.  I am a lazy poet, I hate to rewrite and it shows I'm sure

Walking Backwards

walking backwards
from face to face
i spin

the dream begins...

again i watch the
ebbing tide retreat
leaving only the slime
and littered shells

of man made hopes
and decaying time

some one held theses
things dear
held them as ideas
pure and sacred

hands held this
broken cup
lips pressed lightly
against it's rim

they lay like bones
at our feet
the rotting plaster walls
the chipped and faded paint

ground back to dust
worn smooth by the touch
of hands

walking backwards
from face to face
i spin

the dream never ends

Dinner at a Chinese restaurant

Dinner at a Chinese restaurant
I listen to the noise of people eating
people talking and laughing
waiting for their meals
or waiting for checks
A man sits with his wife
he's wearing a bolo tie
picked up on a trip to the southwest
a beautiful turquoise stone
against an ordinary shirt
and an old sport coat
I wonder how old he is
he seems old to me
but he is middle aged
middle aged seems old
until I look in a mirror

A family comes in and sits down
a middle aged couple with grown daughters
and their husbands or boyfriends
I'm sure they're not their sons
one daughter is average looking
like her mother same face and hair
the other is remarkable
long and thin like wheat
her hair catches and reflects all the
light in the room
it is black like a raven
she owns the room and the gaze
of most of the men in the room
but not the bolo tie
he sees only is wife
only his chow mien
and his wife

I eat
I listen to the room
the clinking and clanging
the laughing talk of people enjoying life
I hear the silence the unspoken
the empty plates and half full glasses
the eyes desperate to be seen
I eat
speaking without hearing what I say
listening for the raven hair or bolo tie
hearing the mummer of a room
full of people
eating in a Chinese restaurant
