The Gaming Meme
I don't usually answer Meme's but its kind of the area i think i know a bit about through a few years experience.
Day 01 - Your first video game.
Amazingly enough my first game was one my father and I wrote ourselves on a BBC basic.
Dad had purchased a book of programming codes and I spent all weekend writing it and playing it for about 5 months....I was 6!!
It has a name but I can’t remember it, but it involved moving an icon from side to side to avoid the wall as the tunnels got progressively tighter.
Day 02 - Your favourite character
This is a hard question, there are soo many good characters out there it’s hard to put my finger on exactly which one is my favourite. So I am cheating here is a top three.
1: Tommy Vercetti. An Iconic main character from GTA: Vice City inspired by the movie Scarface it was the good voice acting and the sheer aggressive attitude that sold him as the ever present Anti-Hero.
2: Duke Nukem : He’s back back in just a few months time but the wonderful one liners and general BAD-ASS was always funny. Let see in the next game if he has lost his touch or not.
3: Guybrush Threepwood: Well what can’t be said about this guy? The games were the funniest I have played, also at times a real challenge to complete. The star of the Monkey Island series is a legend.
Day 03 - A game that is underrated...
A game that was highly underrated was a game called Apocalypse which starred Bruce Willis as the main bad guy. It was on the Playstation a long old time ago but no matter what happened I kept playing it for months.
It got bad reviews and didn’t do very well but I must say I really did enjoy it.
Day 04 - Your guilty pleasure game.
Grand Prix World. I have a thing for managerial games and a major thing for motorsport.
Anything that combined the two isn’t a bad thing; I love to play this game, about once a year I play the game like madman for about a month and then stop. I have completed it dozens of times, running every team available and making them a fortune. It’s a good game but once you have the routine in place to configure and set everything up it’s not hard to fly through the rest of the game
Day 05 - Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were).
Guybrush Threepwood.
Day 06 - Most annoying character.
Well, I have thought long and hard about it but I haven’t come up with a specific one, there are too many.
But the type of character I really detest are the ones that you have to guard or protect all the time while on some pointless walk from Safe Valley to secure place via road of incredible torment. Especially the ones who don’t do any of the following
A: Take cover
B: give warning if they see trouble
C: Stay away from the trouble.
D: Wait for you.
I hate A.I’s that waltz right up to the biggest threat and stand there, or demanding that you must move faster before walking off the edge of a cliff because you were just too late.
The amount of times I have played a game and been shafted because it throws 50+ bad guys who are better armed than a 40K Titan just appear out nowhere and stop me five feet from the next checkpoint for those last 5 seconds before the game declares that I am too far away from my mark as he has joyfully skipped off into the distance.
Even more annoying are the ones who you are supposed to protect who the AI either completely ignore or 100% focus on. When they are ignored all you hear is HURRY UP wailing through you headset before the screen says GAME OVER target too far away. Or all the bad guys bundle him so fast it’s as if he has stapled a 42oz raw steak to his ball and is dangling them above a great white shark. Just for shits and giggles of course...you have to protect him from his own stupidity don’t you know!!
Day 07 - Favourite game couple.
Gaming couple? Well it’s not any of the Final Fantasy lot that’s for certain the whinging emo blighters
I guess the best gaming couple are Jak and Daxter. Not really a couple per se but they are inseparable.
Day 08 - Best soundtrack.
Without a shadow of a doubt GTA; Vice City, 80s music never felt so good!!
Day 09 - Saddest game scene.
The saddest game scene huh? That’s not easy; I have a few game moments that fit in this category.
1: GTA Vice City Stories. The death of Louise Cassidy-Williams, after finally getting happiness in your characters life the girl you rescued earlier in the game is kidnapped and murdered before you even get a chance to draw a gun.
2: Red Dead Redemption: The betrayal and murder of John Marston. I liked this tough and rough character he had a lot of depth and his back story was very well written. His death was inevitable but still...very touching moment.
3: GTA 4 both alternate endings. Nico...oh Nico.
Day 10 - Best game play.
Ok, for sheer hours of fun and constant expansion...the Fallout series.
I love Fallout, the storylines are ever evolving and you get to choose to do so much, ok so the graphics could do with a little work and that it’s frustrating that you can’t trade with certain people because you accidently sneezed and pulled the trigger and blew their head off. (Yup this DID happen to me once) but these events are taken in their stride and give you a really good feeling that your actions make a difference in the world.
New Vegas has proved just as entertaining if not more so.
Day 11 - Gaming system of choice.
Console or PC is the epic question; well I guess it depends on the game. So far I like my Xbox 360.
The controller has a good feel to it and it’s a nice system.
As for the PC, I am found lacking in this department as I don’t possess a PC that could even start to play the gaming equivalents of its console counterpart.
So for ease of use I choose the Xbox 360, but only because it costs a fortune to be on the cutting edge of the PC gaming world...and it’s a place I haven’t been for many years.
Day 12 - A game everyone should play.
Monkey Island 2. GO....GO AND BUY IT!!!! I demand it!!!
Day 13 - A game you've played more than five times.
Errr...pretty much every game in my collection I have played more than once.
Honestly what a crap question.
Day 14 - Current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper.
The TRON legacy light cycle....yeah you would.
Day 15 - Post a screen shot from the game you're playing right now..

FMV? Err probably at the moment that would be LA Noire....I know it’s not out yet but dear lord have you seen the videos.
Day 17 - Favourite antagonist.
GLADoS....oh my god....I was blown away by the dark humour of this twisted computer. I love you Portal!!
Day 18 - Favourite protagonist.
The Hero’s from the Fable series. I want to have swords, guns, crossbows and magic too!!!
Day 19 - Picture of a game setting you wish you lived in.
WELCOME TO SKYRIM!!!! Elder Scrolls 5...yes this is in game footage

SCi-Fi / most things by Rockstar.
Day 21 - Game with the best story.
Metal Gear Solid, if you stand it alone its great...they rest of the series was a bit crap in comparison.
Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.
FF8, FF9. FFX FFX2 etc...too much FMV!!!! Square ENIX why don’t you just make a sodding movie!!!!! You obviously don’t want us to play the bloody game. 8 hours after starting FF11 I finally got explore the world. What the hell?
Day 23 - Game you think had the best graphics or art style.
Elder Scrolls 5 looks outstanding; I just hope they have fixed the freezing problems of 4.
Day 24 - Favourite classic game.
I have said it once and will say it again Monkey island 2
Day 25 - A game you plan on playing.
LA Noire. It’s like CSI meets GTA in the 40’s....awesome.
Day 26 - Best voice acting.
Fallout and Fable are probably the best in my opinion. Just check out the voice actors.
Day 27 - Most epic scene ever.
The Death of John Marston. Red Dead Redemption
Day 28 - Favourite game developer.
Rockstar North.
Day 29 - A game you thought you wouldn't like, but ended up loving.
Surprisingly Fallout 3, the graphics didn’t look all that good and I had heard mixed reviews. But damn...I still play it now
Day 30 - Your favourite game of all time.
Monkey Island 2....look its brilliant, it’s got humour, action, adventure, plot twists, a chicken with a wheel in it, a zombie pirate, a talking skull, a drink that melts steel, piranha poodles and much much more!!!!
