this melancholy tastes familiar and far away

I am listening to the band The Fray's song "Over My Head"
there's a line in it that says:
"I'm losing you and it's effortless"
I listen to that
looking over my shoulder at so many of my past relationships
the slow letting go of clasped hands that was my experience for so long
that slow motion falling back
this melancholy tastes familiar to me
the difference now is that it is like a lingering scent
left behind by someone long gone
far away and familiar
not a current experience
not my current life
I like the new flavor of life that is surrounding me
