Boy, are we Rushies luckiest fans on earth or what? Look
how much it costs to have dinner with Michael Emerson! (On top of travel expenses if you don't live in the NYC area.) At least it's for charity.
Not only that, but I just bought the latest (double) issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, in which
Doc Jensen's excellent Lost finale analysis (spoiler alert) finally appears in print. And would you believe that they list among the "100 Greatest Characters of the Last 20 Years" John Locke of Lost (#63) but not Ben Linus, Jack Sparrow (#13) and not Captain Barbossa (in fact, Johnny Depp has two characters in the top 13!) ... and Harry Potter (#2????) but not Severus Snape??? OK, maybe I can understand Jack Sparrow as he is yet another ambiguous character, but I find Ben Linus and Severus Snape far more interesting than John Locke and especially Harry Potter! (In fact, someday I might write a dissertation on how Ben Linus is Lost's Snape! Or at least comparing and contrasting the two.)
Oh well, at least it includes a 1/4-page article and photo on the lovely and talented Michael "Overdue for an Oscar" Sheen (about his playing Tony Blair on screen for the third time--in The Special Relationship on HBO this month). BTW, does anybody else see
Michael Sheen, who seems to specialize--unintentionally--in playing real-life public figures, being tapped to play villainous BP CEO
Tony "I'd like my life back" Hayward? (Well, they'd have to ugly Michael up a bit, but they did remake his nose and beautiful curly hair for his role as David Frost, so anything's possible. If you're a bit nearsighted like I am, I think there is somewhat of an unfortunate resemblance.)
Edit: BTW, I'm not meaning to put Michael Emerson down (again, he's doing it for charity), but for me personally, it wouldn't mean nearly as much to have dinner with him if I had to pay thousands of dollars for the privilege, as it would if he actually invited me and a few other loyal fans to meet with him because he was actually interested in us. Come to think of it, it's a bit like prostitution, isn't it? No, I didn't just say that! It is for charity, and also, unfortunately, unlike
Spymaster Geoffrey, who knows we're sincere, Michael will be forever associated with Lost and therefore will always have "fans" wanting to meet him not because they like him necessarily, but just because he was on Lost. (Hope he doesn't end up like William Shatner and start charging exhorbitant fees for autographs at Lost conventions 30 years from now!) On the other hand, maybe I'm not interested because I met him once already and have such pleasant and clear memories (even though it was only for a few minutes), I wouldn't want to risk spoiling that. (Like, for example, if Mrs. Emerson were to show up for lunch too ... and remind us again how she gave birth to him on the show. I really don't want to lose my $2500+ (and counting!) lunch in front of Michael. On the other hand, it might actually be worth it if it got her to stop that!)
