WE ARE HEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE!!!

Here being Portland. :D

I am on day two of the new job. Pretty pretty area, at least this stretch of Lake Oswego. Pretty commute, about half an hour with traffic (and wtf are people complaining about? *boggles*) and tons of parking in the lot around the building. Today I ended up getting here early enough to take a short nap in my car in the lot before work. And still ended up walking in ten minutes early. :)

The clouds are GORGEOUS. I hadn't realized how boring I found the skies in CA. Sunny, blue, bare. BORING. Clouds are fun and interesting! And it has been sprinkling off and on since yesterday evening, raining a bit heavier today but still lovely weather by my standards. Admittedly, my tastes are stranger than some, but still.

I am so tickled. About everything. :D

We did not get out of SB until late on Friday. We had intended, originally, to leave early Thursday, then late Thursday, then early Friday. It just didn't happen. I was in a state of near panic Mon-Wed, because Fresno aggravated my allergies into a an asthma attack/bronchitis. I literally had to pant just to sit up, and laying down only made it worse. Helping pack was pretty much beyond me for most of the three days, Mr. B was freaked out and ready to take me to the ER, and I was frantic about not being well enough to even stand, much less drive 900+ miles.

Fortunately, my insurance is the type where I do not have a primary care physician. I couldn't see my normal doc, but the other one in his clinic was available. Two trips, a breathing treatment, one cortisone shot and two prescriptions later, I was finally starting to feel vaguely human again.

We pushed each other hard, Johnnyboy was a trooper, and Mr. B was superhuman. He managed to stay up all night Th cleaning, while the drivers got some shuteye. We returned that morning to help finish, but didn't wrap it up until around six. Ate dinner, began drive.

THEN the fun began.

The install of my CD player in Blue hadn't gone as smoothly as we'd hoped. The wiring shorted out the tail-lights. Repeatedly. The only way to get the lights to work (required for a night drive) was to disconnect the CD player. Fortunately our boombox (being one of the last items packed) was on top and we threw in some batteries and listened to that over the crying kitties.

This was all accomplished on the fly at rest stops (thank you CHP!), and we discovered after taking 46 that the junction to the 41 was closed (fuck you, CHP!) and we were rerouted south to the 33 to the 41...

Anyhow, very very long drive. I managed to get an hour and a half or so of sleep in the car when Mr B drove for a short time. JB went on only half an hour when he accidentally fell asleep at a stop to doublecheck the load. (We piled everything onto his truck and one Uhaul trailer... a 4cylinder with a double load of around 2.5 tons. Wow.)

Shasta is gorgeous. Must go back to camp sometime.

Oregon is gorgeous. AND I LIVE HERE NOW!!!! *dancedance*

Finally arrived at 5pm on Saturday. The lovely Madmal and his equally lovely associate helped us unload the entire thing before 8, and we all went out for a relieved dinner.

JB headed back Sunday evening with the trailer, and arrived late last night back in SB. The Uhaul people charged us an additionall $60 for the one-day-over, but given the difference between the one way and the intown charges, we still saved hundreds.

We've already decided we love the neighborhood... many good restaurants nearby, a lovely huge asian market, a movie house in walking distance (currently playing PIRATES WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN YET!!! grrr) and Madmal and Co. are only about a mile away.

I am so. freakin. happy.

We're slowly stocking up on necessities, like food, and plates, but we've got NO furniture at all until we either buy some or put the ikea stuff back together. Tonight the landlady comes over to discuss the minor details of the house we're renting (i LOVE it, so cute) and hopefully I'll get more sleep... so far I've been so wired I've not gotten anywhere near enough rest considering I was almost hospitalized last week! hehehhe.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah. :)
