Lady Sally's: River's Apartment, late Wednesday night

Dec 21, 2005 22:25

[[Immediately after this.]]

Jayne was gone. He'd taken her home, made sure she was okay, then left. River left her slippers near the door, right next to her huge black combat boots, and curled up on her bed.

She'd found a place for herself here in Metropolis, dancing at Sally's. She'd acquired a make-shift mother, one more understanding than Inara had ever been, as well as Sally, who treated her like a favored neice. She'd finally met someone else like her and a few very interesting men. And now her old life was intruding upon her new.

She knew Jayne still felt guilty about what happened on Ariel, and her freaking out at Callahan's probably didn't help matters. He clearly wasn't sure what to think of her, though he definitely thought of her as more than the doc's moonbrain sister. She wasn't quite sure how she felt about that. Her body clearly responded (she could feel his hands and mouth everywhere, see him above her, sweaty and panting) but her mind knew it was a bad, horrible, rotten idea.

Curled up around her pillow, River wondered why, if it was such a bad idea, she couldn't seem to get it out of her head?
