Room 510: River's Birthday Party, Tuesday evening

River had woken up on Tuesday morning with the feeling that she had forgot something. It wasn't until lunchtime that she'd remembered: she'd missed her birthday, which was yesterday. Not sure why this had slipped her mind, she'd spent an hour trying to decide how to deal with the situation. She decided that a birthday party was in order. After all

There are popcorn, ice cream and chocolate cake. Beware, any food might be nicked by Berthold the tentacled monster if you get too close to Buffy's bed.

There is also fruit punch, of a strange colour, contents unknown.

After kissing River, Blair grabbed her hand and drug her over to the cake. "Now, I get my frosting covered reward."

"That you do," River said, slipping one arm around him and grinning.

"Chocolate cake is really the only way to go for birthday cakes." Blair nodded, taking a slice and handing it over to River. "Naomi tried carob wheat loaf one time and it just didn't seem like a celebration."

"That's a cake?" It didn't sound as nice as chocolate. "Oh, have some punch." She handed him a glass.

"It was more like a doorstop with delusions." Blair took the glass and gave it a sniff. "What's in the punch?"

"It's a surprise punch!" River beamed. "Actually, I had to improvise."

"Oh, and I'm happy that classes have started again. What are yours like?"

"Surprise punch?" Blair blinked and focused on the conversation instead. "Pretty good. We do our first pratical class in Hunting tomorrow, but Professor Winchester said I can try ghost therapy so we'll see how that goes. And ethics is...well, Vader is odd."

"Ghost therapy? It sounds very... you." She smiled happily at him. "And Vader is evil," she added her face darkening.

"I think I need to apologize to him about the newspaper article I wrote." Blair frowned. "Judging by his reaction to Jamie, I don't think he likes the insinuation that him and V had a fling."

"And if you apologize you bring the subject to his attention," River pointed out. "Ignore it."

"But what if an apology is what he needs to be cheerier?" Blair asked with a bounce.

"I don't think he wants to be cheerier. Or that he wants to want to be cheerier. Not part of what he wants to be." River seriously hoped Blair wouldn't try that but the mun does, of course.

"Maybe." Blair shrugged and pointed to the CD player. "Do you want to dance?"

Good change of subject. "Yes. Of course." She took Blair's hand and pulled him closer to the music.

"Hey, Blair," Parker said, getting a piece of cake. "Haven't seen you in a while. How's your semester going?"

River's request for her to talk to Blair flitted through Parker's mind, and she immediately started singing Happy Birthday in her brain. Even though Blair couldn't read minds.
