River had finally managed to get the email connection to Serenity to work. Not a mean feat, considering it was a spaceship in a different solar system some 500 years in the future.
Dear Simon,
I'm sorry I haven't written sooner. It wasn't my intention to make you have a nervous breakdown worrying about me. Well, perhaps a little. Anyway, I arrived here safely, and was surprised to
find both Kaylee and Zoe here. Kaylee had appearantly decided to apply without letting be know, and
it's nice to have her here. I'm a bit disappointed however, as I imagined my going away would give you two the opportunity to get it on. You didn't do anything to mess things up as usual, did you? The
Zoe here is from an alternate reality to ours, and she's the principal, which suits her. I wonder if she misses Wash, but I haven't enquired in detail how her reality is different. In fact this troubles me a little, as I still haven't found a logical explanation for it.
I share a room with a girl called
Buffy. She dreams of vampires, but she doesn't know that I know. I have invented an imaginary monster under her bed,
and I feed it ice cream. Buffy doesn't seem to object. She also
makes pancakes occasionally. I'm sure you'd like pancakes. Also, she is arranging
a social activity called 'cheerleading' in which I am participating. It's supposed to be a teenage girl thing, and involves dancing and kicking people.
I try to keep up with practices.
I also had
nightmares once, but I won't tell you about that. Neither will I tell you that I occasionally
roam the corridors at night.
At the moment we are staying in
cabins. I'm not sure why.
Sitting on the roof of them at night is nice, and you can see the sky. The stars look different from here. There is also opportunity to
sleep beneath trees, but I don't recommend it. I've also indulged in
peaceful walks. Occasionally I have
sighted some odd birds.
The town here is small but nice. There's a shop for musical recordings that occasionally have
live performances. Today I also
discussed the opportunity of taking up singing with a group of people, one of whom works in this shop. There is also a
confectionary shop, with a very enthusiastic proprietor. I have also found
places which serve more nourishing food.
There was a
party the other day, with funny costumes and dancing.
Of course there are
classes too. I'm taking one on Image, one on Applied Dadaism and one called How to be an entertainer. As you see I'm sticking to my idea of developing other sides of myself than the intellectual.
Hopefully I'll remember to write back to you sooner next time. Just remember you have no reason to worry about me.
Love,
River
