I am pooped! Harvest is intense. We start at 9am and go till about 11pm each day. There are no lunch breaks… you eat as you go. Most of the time I drive the grain truck, which has no air conditioning. It’s been in the 90s here and when you add to that the dryness of the air in the middle of a field with dust and grain chaff flying around…. it all sticks to the sweat that’s pouring out and creates a disgusting film that coats your body. When the truck is full, my dad takes it into the yard and loads it into the grain bin with the agar. And while he’s doing that I continue cutting the wheat with the combine..
We’ve had a fair amount of problems with the combine the last few days. It gets so discouraging and frustrating! For one, I know it stresses my dad out, ‘cause it threatens to delay cutting which can deteriorate the quality of the wheat. And two, I have created these hopes and expectations that we can be done cutting by next Saturday so I can have 3 days to pack and say good byes before going back to PLU on the 17th. I found myself bargaining with God tonight and have come to the conclusion that I want at least the evening of the 15th and the day of the 16th. If I get that, I will be happy.
Kyle and I get to spend about an hour a day together tops lately. He’s helping another family harvest and they’re hoping to be done about the same time as us. Next year Kyle is going to try to convince his good friend Josh to come up from Wyoming and work for this family and then Kyle will work with my dad.
A lot of things have kind of been sorted out and becoming clearer lately. At least I feel that way. The shipping on the “big birthday present” Kyle is getting me apparently was changed from one week to eight weeks. So as he said, “It will be a very Merry Christmas!” :-) So we’ll likely be getting engaged around Christmastime. Kyle will be finishing up his Associates degree in May. He has talked about moving over to the Seattle area to get a job and be closer to me while I finish up my last year at PLU. But we’re thinking that he might move down to Bozeman a year from now (’06) to find a steady job with health insurance and sort of get an apartment or house established for us. Then we’d get married the summer of ’07 right after I graduate from PLU.
It’s exciting and relieving to see how things might be working together. For a while there Kyle was talking about getting married next summer. While I totally would have gone for it, I kind of was freaking out about planning a wedding from long distance. And how married life would mesh with college life. But now those aren’t really things I need to worry as much about. Next summer I’ll be able to be home to plan much of the wedding and hopefully will be able to have both Brittney and Nacole here for a few days so we can go dress shopping! ;-) It would be much easier if we weren’t each in a different state.
Last night I went to Kyle’s after I got done working. He was out walking the dog with his mom when I arrived so I sat in the living room and talked with his dad and McKenna. When Kyle and his mom got back they didn’t know I was there yet, and I could tell they had been talking about me. Haha. His mom’s face was funny when she realized I was there. And tonight Kyle made some comment about talking about weddings with her while walking the dog. He was talking about what colors we were thinking of etc. Apparently it surprised his mom that we have talked about things so much already.
I think I know what the ring that Kyle got looks like. He started out by casually asking me what my favorite gemstone was. And then he started describing different arragnements and asking what I thought. My guess… white gold with a diamond between our two birthstones (emerald and ruby). We’ll see.
Sweet dreams!
