My weekend in Heian-kyo, summarized as tersely as possible:

Fourteen-story openair train station, Jade, Kyoto Tower is morally offensive, finding our hostel in the midst of a typhoon fucking sucks, Austrian nerds, 3,000 nerds in town for a convention on magnetic resonance, pool hall after ramen and before drunkedness, Toji's "kobo-san" monthly market, being friendly to animals in stores is a good thing, a tapestry dyed with shiitake guides, takoyaki, already too much time spent at the train station, midday showers, skirting around the outsides of Nijo Castle, two girls take over the honeymoon suite, Austrian nerd collapses a makeshift wall on top of sleeping me and doesn't notice, cheap and abundant zaru soba, Shinto wedding with Candian Matt and Iranian Muhammad, the Imperial Palace (Gosho), the Uji river fucking flows, Yumeukihashi, the Tale of Genji as well as green tea is everywhere, Byodoin, I want to stab someone in the eye because the gilded Amida sculpture is undergoing repairs until August 2005, Wisteria equals fuji and is beautiful, ruddy-cheeked Korean makes hostel glow, Englishman from Bristol and I keep each other entertained, dinner on the roof in justdusk, chilling on the roof late at night with Korean, Englishman, Two Annas, Their Friend and Trainhopping-Squatting-Free Spirit, debates, I'm getting a cold, Coli at eight-thirty in the morning, Fushimi Inari Taisha, holy jesus I have never seen so many torii (30,000 in all), holy jesus I have never seen so many sculptures of foxes, hiking feels great except for my jam-packed backpack, view of the city, lost and then found at Tofukuji, vending machine beer, old school game center, no one knows where the mall is, delicious ramen served with a side dish of blatant xenophobia, more beer for Coli, Coli is drunk, we find a severed plastic head sitting in front of a store and caringly place it in a planter, Coli drops his five-hundred milliliter can on the sidewalk and stranger cannot stop laughing, free aburatorigami, standing (balancing) on the train halfway back to Kanazawa, excited on the bus ride from station to dorm, I love meeting people and talking and travelling and experiencing, etc.
