king kong

i was indifferent about the new king kong movie until i saw this gorgeous billboard while i was in los angeles. it was powerful, it definitely got me interested.

and then a couple months later i saw the trailer, which was pretty much the opposite of everything i got from the billboard. so i put together a comparison...

it's really sort of breath-taking. i would have prefered if the girl looked a little more drawn, like king kong, but i didn't notice when i saw it on the billboard. after i saw this i was kind of looking forward to it...and then my hopes were shattered when i saw the trailer, or at least the tv-spot (i don't remember if i've seen it in theaters). but anyway, it was something like this...

everything i saw in the trailer/tv-spot i was able to fit in here. an angry gorilla, fire, explosions, bad weather, people screaming, dinosaurs (the one in my drawing doesn't know why he's there, i had to pull him out of the jungle to fit him in this scene...), helicopters, things being crushed, and pretty much just chaos. the sense of wonderment and awe was completely lost. i know i should have expected it, i mean it is king kong, but i'm disappointed that there wasn't even one scene involving what i might be interested in. so this has probably been bumped back down to a rental...if i ever get around to it.

btw, exuse the jaggedy-ness of my drawing, i'm on bryan's laptop at the moment so i had to use the little pad thing. x_o; i also stupidly didn't use the other image as reference, so pretend he shaved his chest while i drew this picture...lol.

that is all.
