Hey, I know I haven't been on her since, you know, mid-April. Life kind of took me by the throat and ran off. Now, since things are slowing down for me, I'm trying to get a grip on not neglecting my friends. Here's the cliff-notes of what's been shaking.
Your Princess is in Another Castle
It's been a busy summer, since that's when my EMT-focused job takes over for the next three months until school gets back into session. I ended up on a schedule where I was on-duty for every other week. This scheduling gave me some time to recoup until my next shift, but it also sucked the life (and social life) outta me. No only that, but some of the jobs had me going out-of-state.
I usually don't talk about this job on here, mostly due to the fact that majority of the time when people see me, they're have one of the worse days of their lives. And I don't wanna talk smack about people's misfortunes, or scare you guys. However, I do have some positive stories that just as wacky:
- Rando NPC lady gives me and my squad houseplants as thanks for our services.
- Went to Nebraska.
- 'Rescues' Zelda cosplayer who got their foot stuck in a HAC vent (still don't know how that was accomplished) who spent the ordeal taking selfies with me because the irony of blond, southpaw rescue officer using knife saw wasn't lost on her.
- Put out campfire fueled by gasoline (you read that correctly).
It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.
I Bought a New Laptop
Back in October, my workhorse laptop and smartphone both decided to die on the exact same day. The phone was a complete shocker. But I wasn't too surprised with the laptop, the thing was an eleven-year-old HP that was running on a i3 Processor and a 32bit version of Windows 7... and I was making that puppy do things that hardware limitations shouldn't make it do.
I am a bit bummed about losing that computer. It's not because I still have a bunch of work and games that's still on it (something that I can recover) or that I'm now out of an 'emergency fund' at the same time I'm now out of a cellphone. It's because it was my dad's laptop. I'm not one that gets very sentimental or nostalgic about things, but I ended up inherited the thing after he died. And after my dad's cat died last year, this computer was like the last 'living thing' that I had of his to take care of. However, the solid HD and RAM-chipset are still in working order so I still create a 'ghost version' (that's what it's called) of my dad's old computer via SATA cables.
I'm *Still* Not Getting a Switch
And that 'emergency fund' I used up was really a slush fund I was setting aside to splurge on a Nintendo Switch. But, I'm not mad. The bright side is now have a chipset that can run a Dolphin emulator, allowing me to finally play Wind Waker and finish Twilight Princess (for the record, I only got up to that wild-west looking mining town before I dropped the game entirely).
This may sound odd, but I've never fully played through an entire Zelda game past Zelda 3 and one CDi game. It's not that I have anything against the 'newer' games, but I'm part of that generation that, by the time N64 was a thing, we were adults either in collage or already had a full-blown career. I really had no time for Zelda anymore, and was relegated only to watching my little brother playing the game and beating Link's shadow for him because he was too young to know what that was.
*And the "Safety Not Guaranteed" meme where N64 Link plays "Push It to the Limit" on a warp whistle.*
However, I've got a working, if convoluted vague, idea of what happens in all the games. All the rest of the story and fandom lore, I pretty clueless about (and I have a sneaking hunch that I *might* want to say that way). Yo, I'm just here for the roaming the world, shanking Ganon and sleeping in mud thing... you know, a hero's life.
My Lungs A-splaoaded!
Speaking of Zelda, I finally had an excuse to play through Wind Waker. I contracted a pretty nasty case of viral bronchitis. It was going around our district like wildfire, one school even had to close for a couple of days due to the amount of people out sick. All I could do was take few sick days off and find something to do that didn't require unnecessary strain on my bronchial system (though I had to take a hour out to watch "The Price is Right" because that's what everyone dose when their sick, it's legit healing science).
I Went All-Out for Halloween
I just don't have a new phone, yet, to blind all of you with a post full of flashing lights (plus we got 5 inches of snow on Halloween). When Mother Nature and I get our acts together, I'll record a vlog off my misspent decorating skillz...
real-life adventures,
ohio being ohio,
dumb as hell,
everyday i'm macgyvering
