I'm sorry I haven't been very active on here; school is making me so insane and on the verge of always being one step away from a nervous breakdown. But I can't afford any nervous breakdowns because that would require me taking a break from my life and that's not...possible at the moment.
But that's depressing so let's talk about some happy things:
Chicago Fire
I have no idea why but I'm now obsessed with this show. It has JESSE SPENCER AND TAYLOR KINNEY AKA UNCLE MASON FROM THE VAMPIRE DIARIES! AND SO MUCH OTHER HOTNESS. And Lauren German plays a lesbian paramedic who's cool and awesome. I think it might have the potential to be a little intense for me sometimes and it might border on the cheesy and inaccuracy but goddamn it does it surprise and enthrall.
Also: there was
fic for it. Seriously. I don't even know. THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ONE EPISODE SO FAR. (It's apparently like catnip.)
Beauty and the Beast
I caught the series premiere Thursday. I talk about it over at my
tumblr (apparently I've moved over there now). I wanted to hate it SO MUCH, but I don't. At least not yet. I suspect I'm giving it a chance because of Kristin Kreuk.
The Vampire Diaries
Thursday was also the fourth season premiere of The Vampire Diaries...and honestly I wish that show would end. It's not as attention-grabbing as before, and there are predictable moments. Meh.
Little Mosque
And I have no idea how I stumbled onto Little Mosque but I'm betting it's Hulu's fault. It's the little Canadian show that could about the life of a small Muslim community in Canada. I love all the characters - even the bigoted small radio talk show host who's supposed to represent the extreme Christian view of fear and bigotry but he does have some redeeming values. (If you're new here, I LOVE CANADA SO VERY MUCH. And I love Canadian tv.)
Unfortunately, the fandom is like nonexistent. Which is a shame but I am no stranger to small fandoms (see also: Power Rangers and Chicago Fire).
Anyways, despite the lack of a fandom anywhere, I did find a couple of awesome fics on A03 and there's this awesome vid,
All For Swinging You Around, which I would recommend watching.
If you do get a chance to watch it, it's free on
Hulu (possibly only for US-residents, and maybe for a limited time? sorry).
And, not related to Little Mosque, but something I found while browsing obscure spaces of the internet for LM stuff:
women, race, and agency in narratives: or why i stopped reading vertigo's fables. It's...definitely made me think of Fables in a different light. I've only one whole volume and random issues and while I love the comic overall, it does have problems and is problematic in how it deals with characters other than its two main Caucasian ones. (Goldilocks, for one, is portrayed as being a psychopathic, slutty chick which is skeevy on so many levels.)
I've also been tuning in to Castle and Once Upon a Time. I don't have much to say about either of them except Castle is not holding my attention all that much lately. (I don't think it's quite jumped the shark and I *LOVE* that Beckett and Castle are together...but I'm just not sure about some of the execution of the Beckett and Castle togetherness - if that makes any sense at all.) But I am loving Once Upon a Time.
