the service industry

let's face it - in some way, we all work in the service industry. and our hours are all different. clearly, to suit different needs.

do you remember your first package slip in the dorms? that teeny piece of paper, essentially confirming your self-worth when it told you to get your butt to the reception desk to claim your package. well, have you ever thought about what happens before you get that slip that says someone loves you?

let's say that you're trying to mail a package. wouldn't it make sense for your hours to be a wee bit ahead of the "normal" business day? not according to the UPS store (which opens at 9AM). i'm sorry, but somethings just need to be sent before lunchtime, especially since i won't get a lunchtime tomorrow. and bless the post office, which opens at 7:30 in the morning. and while i'm blessing things, bless costco for creating their caramel apple pie, which is amazing - especially warmed up with ice cream. yumm.

but back to packages. let's say that now i'm trying to weigh the lump of it all and try to use the bathroom scale (sketchy to begin with, but admittedly, it would get the job done. turn it on, place items on top, scale turns off. too bad i don't know what the minimum weight is for that thing to even register.

man, that pie made me sleepy. commuting tomorrow should be ... fun. it's really too bad i don't have a metro airport mix yet (cough-carolanne-couch). i wonder what it's like to have an ipod ...

end result - USPS is more economical, and to all a good night!
