Sorry for the long wait for a reply! I agree with you on the lack of good fics about the Illiad or the Trojan War in general. When I "rediscovered" Greek mythology a few years ago, after forgetting all about it, I looked for modern fiction about it and for all the books I bought or skimmed through, I found hardly anything worth reading, especially about the Greeks. The ancient plays and so on are great and not hard to read, but I am amazed there's so little modern stuff.

Just out of curiosity, have you read Eric Shanower's Age of Bronze? That is undoubtedly the best (and certainly the most comprehensive) retelling of the Trojan War from start to finish (though he's only half way through so far!) And it's also the least judgemental - it tells the story (in comic book format) from all POVs and shows both the good and bad sides of the characters.

Oh - and if you don't mind the heroes being made to look a bit stupid, Barry Unsworth's "The Songs of Kings" is an excellent satire focusing on Iphigenia at Aulis!

I did try writing a fic about Achilles and Patroklos as boys but I wasn't happy with the ending so I'm still waiting for inspiration to strike. I do find Achilles remarkably difficult to write. There's loads of fanfics on "Troy" on ff.net but as I personally hated that film I can't recommend them!

You know, you're not the first person to ask if I've read Age of Bronze. I haven't yet, but I'm currently in the unfortunate position of only being able to buy anything real ("real" being "not textbooks") online. It's not very fun. I'll have to check them both out.

And Troy was a terrible waste of film. I guess I'm a lonely person, cause over the summer I watched it on TV and gave my cat a lecture on how inaccurate it was. Troy is the reason I started writing. My mission in life is to wage war on the media...
