"Here I Am, Lord," is easily one of my top ten favorite hymns. Maybe the top, if only because not only am I really moved by the words, but I find it easy to sing.

"Finlandia" is one that that I love and adore, but struggle enough to sing that I would rate it lower.

I wasn't familiar with Finlandia; thanks!

*nod* Here I Am is just so beautiful and powerful.

One of my friends here on livejournal sent me an mp3 of that Indigo Girls recording of "Finlandia" and I just fell in love. Then the first time I heard it in church, I nearly fell over! I didn't realize it was a hymn. But I've only heard it maybe twice in church since then. It's not in the standard Church of the Brethren Hymnal, but it's in one of the supplements. Definitely not a song that I grew up singing, which is probably mostly why I'm still not comfortable singing it.

I sang that song on a video my church youth group made for US troops in Iraq. In 1990.

If you haven't heard it already, look up a song on Youtube called "We Are The Many". It's largely about Occupy and the video to accompany it is good. It's in many ways a chilling (in a good way) song.

Oh and "Sound of Silence" is one of my all-time favorites, along with several others from S&G.

*smile* Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of Simon and Garfunkel in general.

Although they've got nothing humorwise on Garfunkel and Oates.
