It's been a very slow few days. I'm still really sleepy/groggy and NL's got a cold so we spent our Wednesday date night eating pizza and watching Doctor Who (we're finally into Season 4, so I get to introduce him to my favorite companion! Yay!). Thursday was more of the same, only with Six Feet Under instead (I'm getting toward the end of Season 2 at the moment). Erin and I rainchecked, since we were both feeling pretty crappy and sluggish. I got nothing productive accomplished all weekend. Not a thing.
Today's my bus day, so I have pesto chicken salad, quinoa and black bean salad, roasted asparagus (yes, it's a favorite), and maple sugar candy, as well as a mango and a bag full of plums. Mmmmm-tasty!
Also, I used the ride to listen to more of On Intelligence. I'm still really enjoying the book (and have some thoughts on how his theories fit with recent discoveries regarding how many fewer genes we have than we expected, and what that says about "reuse of components" as a huge part of our functioning), and mostly enjoying the experiment with audiobooks, but I do find some downsides in how they work in my life. First of all, it's a _lot_ slower than reading. I suspect this book would only take me a few hours to read, but it's massively longer by audiobook (about 7 hours, I believe). That makes it harder to commit to "reading" something this way. On the positive side, it does work when a book doesn't (in the dark, in the rain, when my hands are full). Back on the down side: because I'm so much more visual than auditory, I'm a lot more likely to accidentally tune out the book and have to rewind, which isn't easy to do with any precision in the Blackberry Audible app. If I spent a lot of time in the car commuting, I think I'd be all over this option, and probably be interested in a substantial audio library. As it is, I'll probably mostly stick to just buying a book at a time this way for the specific circumstances in my life that work well with it.
This weekend is my "every other" with NL, so he's picking me up from work tonight, and tomorrow we're escorting at the clinic, picking up the CSA, and heading back out to the Planned Parenthood Rally. I've arranged to come into work about an hour late to accomodate that. He'll hang out at our place while I'm at work, either hanging out with the housemates or getting some work done via laptop, and then we'll have Saturday night/Sunday morning together before he heads home. Really wish they'd tell me something about possibilities of getting Saturdays off any time soon. So frustrating to be sitting at work, knowing he's at my house, dammit.
Oh, and we've now got a timeframe for the move to the new building here at work. Sometime second quarter next year. Guess I don't need to radically speed up getting us a vehicle after all (thankfully). It's not horribly inaccessible by RTA, but it's even less great than where we are now, which is an hour and a half commute by bus, but only a 20 minute drive.

She seriously needs to be held accountable for this as much as possible (which isn't much given the "not meant as a factual statement" tack so many republicans seem to be enamoured of this year). Mind you, Death Valley is nowhere in the same league as Awkward., which is every bit as good as Breaking In and nearly as funny as Happy Endings (the other two great 2011 comedy debuts), but it's a blast. Basically, it's a mix of COPS and really cheesy late-night horror movies. Or maybe Reno 911 with zombies and vamps. The premise is that zombies, vampires, and werewolves descended on California a year ago, and are now the primary focus of a group of police officers. -- Huh. A reason to remember that MTV exists? I should check these out.
