Women on the pill live longer, study finds -- I sure as hell hope they've controlled for confounding factors better than the studies that originally found HRT beneficial (when in fact, it wasn't, but women getting it were also generally getting better medical care overall). It wouldn't shock me, though. It's a risk-balancing game; it increases some risks, decreases others, and how that works for an individual relies on a lot of very individual health and susceptibility.

Polys vs. Swingers, as viewed from 2010, which also links to Open war: the polyamorous versus the swingers. It's brilliantly on target, IMO, and given that behaviorally I could choose either or both identities, I think she nails exactly why I identify as poly, specifically.
What I do know is that many polyamorous people define themselves in opposition to swingers, and in fact, at least locally, swingers tend to dwell outside of the intersecting subcultures that one often sees gathered together: the polyfolk, queers and kinksters, the geeks and gamers, the DIYers and cohousers, the pagans and atheist-engineers. I can speculate a number of reasons for this, and lay down a couple of key differences between the general population of swingers and polyfolk. But what I also hope for is a greater understanding between the two groups, who often see each other in a negative light.
also:
Poly people, on the other hand, are often life-hackers: people who are interested in doing things differently from the norm to see if they work better for them. Ha! Damn, do I resemble that remark...

NY Subway Ad Campaign Tells Women "Abortion Changes You"
I'm all for validating and honoring the experience of women who have had an abortion. But there are already TONS of really great support systems for women who have had abortions that are equipped to address a RANGE of post-abortion emotions and outcomes- glee, relief, guilt, sadness, loss, pride, no reaction at all, or a million other possibilities. When an ad campaign chooses to ignore these very real experiences of women who have had abortions, you have to assume that they have an agenda other than helping real women.

A new bill in Georgia passed committee on Wednesday that would outlaw race- and sex-selective abortions. Broadsheet talks about why this is problematic.
