Here are some very frightening statistics:
-Among people who are in sexually active relationships and want to prevent pregnancy, 19% use no contraception at all. 24% use contraception inconsistently.
-42% of men and 40% of women believe that your chances of getting pregnant within one year while on the birth control pill are 50% or greater (the pill is actually about 92% effective with typical use).
-18% of men believe you can reduce the risk of pregnancy if you have sex standing up.
-24% of American singles believe that using two condoms is more effective than using one.
-25% of young men believe that douching after sex can prevent pregnancy.
-29% of men and 32% of women reported knowing “little or nothing about condoms.” 78% of men and 45% of women said the same about birth control pills.
And 90% believe they have all the knowledge they need to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.

The Non-Monogamous Male Couples study -- I've got all sorts of stuff I'd like to say about this one, but I'm having trouble making coherent sentences, so I'll just copy/paste what I put in FB: Fascinating; I see this topic addressed much less frequently than I'd like; most poly coverage I've seen is about mixed gender pairings. Then again, that's also a language/subculture thing, I suspect. I know relatively few gay men who use the term polyamory, and some marked differences relative to the topic of open r...elationships, especially in terms of differing political approaches. At least locally I don't tend to see much overlap between the communities, either. It's one of the reasons I generally say that polyamorously-identified people are a relatively specific subset of the larger group of people participating (in some manner or model) in open relationships. Damn, character limits make me crazy. I should take this over to LJ if I have the energy to really ramble about it.

about the role the lesbian community plays (and fails to play) in young
women's lives. I am especially interested in the experiences and
community perceptions of bi, queer, and fluid women. You do not have to
identify with the lesbian community in order to participate. Feel free
