Sexy blue love...

So I've started rewatching Farscape; it's been a few years, so I'm having a wonderful time being reminded of why I love this show. First and foremost, let's hear it for Henson! The use of puppetry as such a central source of alien characters allows for a level of physiological distinction between species that's worlds beyond the "here, have a funky forehead, and we'll all pretend" standard that's a major practical limitation for most sci-fi shows (they do still resort to that a good deal, admittedly). I get why it's the case, but it's great to see a change from that, especially one that still allows actual character interaction without insane CGI budgets and huge amounts of imagination on the part of the human actors. So, yes. Puppet-love.

And then there's the very organic, earthy nature of much of the world. I utterly adore the idea of a living ship, but it's also the little details -- teeth-cleaning grubs and helium-farting aliens and the like. Such a very unsterile environment.

And, of course, I'm a total sucker for shows that handle sexuality well. In that regard, Zhaan has some of the most wonderfully healthy attitudes I've seen on TV in a very long time. Besides, she's gorgeous and blue and likes to be naked and has a tendency toward photogasms under certain lighting. How could I not love that?

In other, only mildly-related news, why the hell does my libido decide that the week everyone's out-of-town or horribly busy is the time for a surge? Argh!
