The Story of a Sex Surrogate You must be willing to forgive early 80s fashion. And don't worry, the godawful music doesn't really last past the intro.
That said, this was really a fascinating documentary. I've been interested in the work sex surrogates do for a long time, and I wasn't sure how well this would portray it, but I thought it did a pretty good job. There were points when the interviews with Maureen seemed a bit too obsessed with "figuring out what was wrong with her" in order to explain why she was doing this work, and that was frustrating, but it was surprisingly limited. At least, it was surprisingly limited in the actual film. The commentary, recorded twenty years later, was shockingly offensive. It was recorded by the director (a mostly clueful guy), and some woman who had nothing to do with this doc, and who apparently was only on the commentary because she's somehow involved with one of his new projects. She was just a big old basket of nasty, mean-spirited, clueless judgmentality, and I couldn't make it all the way through. Him having to correct her time and time again really ate up any time he might've had to say things that were that interesting. I recommend watching it "on demand" rather than bothering to get it delivered just for the commentary.
