STEPHANOPOULOS: You’re for a constitutional amendment banning abortion, with some exceptions for life and rape and incest.
MCCAIN: Rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Yes.

Shamelessly ripped off from Slog. Read the rest.

It is apparent that he's being overtly ambiguous in his rhetoric - his defense being federalism has tones that, if I am honest, do resonate with me. Reading this article among others proves that politics is about appealing to the widest audience possible and forces a candidate to sacrifice any sort of depth in doing so. I've never been a big McCain supporter but I did think, as you insinuate in your heading, that he wasn't "so bad" and would be a better alternative to most others. That said, I am pro-choice. Plain and simple. I'd like the decision to be in the hands of the state and local governments because I don't think religious and moral issues are the mandate of the federal government, hell - it shouldn't even be an issue. It stands to reason that in a "free society" citizens have the "freedom of choice" over what they do for and with their bodies. I was surprised to read he was for torture given his experience which makes me think he's just toting lines to win over the nomination in '08. May not be forgivable but is at least understandable: he's a politician and one that wants to win. Regardless I wouldn't vote for him now or then. I was in Denver this weekend and didn't call you, I suck. Maybe next time I'm down, I'd like to maybe go to the Watercourse and talk shop and then show you this cool Jazz Club I saw the Pat Metheny Quartet at. Don't stop Christina. Keep the boat a rock'n. xoxo - R
