So yeah, I saw the game tonight. Huge upset.
UVA killed a lot of bitches, and I really got into the game, and I hate football. Everyone was so high-spirited and happy, and I think the whole reason I got into it was because of:
It was 2004 Basketball season, Morgan county in the final game of Regionals against Ashland (I think, I don't even really remember whose ass we stomped and I don't care.)
With minutes to go we were up by like 10 points, and the gym at MSU got really fucking quite, and all of a sudden we all started chanting in low voices "Channing"
Because we were there, and it was somehow for him that we were winning.
C-C-C-O-U-G-G-G-A-R, C-O-U, G-A-R... GOOOOOO COUGARS!
and with 10 seconds left we were up by too much for Ashland to come back... We had won.
All of us seniors swarmed the field People kept shouting "We did it, We Did it!" and some players were crying. People kept touching me and saying "We did it Holliday" and people hugged me.
But then standing there in the middle of the floor was Ashleigh, and she looked amazing, not in a "Oh God I want to fuck you way" but more like a "This is the happiest I've been in a long time, and the only thing that would make me happier right now would be if you, Mr. Weakling boy, would pick me up and swing me around in circles while screaming at the top of your lungs" and so I fucking did.
Tonight I caught a glimmer of that when at the last seconds of the game tons of UVA fans poured into the field and hugged thier players.
I may not have been a fan of football before, and I'm not really a fan right now, but I'm glad I went to this game, just to remember what that day felt like... :)
