♕Premise and basics

Tell me about this game! What's the premise? Does it have a plot?

Star Kingdom is a panfandom, community-based roleplaying game. While it does have many things to discover and the mods have a long-term plot in mind, for the most part the day-to-day plots will be driven by the players. The setting is based on the worlds of Kingdom Hearts and the premise takes place post Kingdom Hearts II but pre-III. The darkness is still spread and is now reaching a large variety of worlds, including yours.

Now, for those of you unfamiliar with the Kingdom Hearts storyline, the Darkness is a force from another realm, pulling in planets from the Realm of Light and Between into it. It consumes them and covers them in darkness, basically destroying these worlds. Still, once something is pulled into the Darkness, it doesn't mean it's lost forever. The Realm of Light tirelessly works to save these lost worlds from the Darkness and are slowly starting to make progress.

This is where your character comes into play. Some people with very strong light in their hearts are just too bright for the Darkness to snub out, while others have been saved as a result of the Realm of Light's efforts to retrieve the lost. Whether you were saved by your heart or the Realm of Light, you are all pulled into the same place: the planets of the Realm of Light and the Between. These worlds will be your new home until your home planets are finally restored. Get comfortable and settle in, because you may be here for a very long time.

I'm interested, but help me out with some of this Kingdom Hearts stuff. What's all this about Darkness and Light?

There are three realms that exist within the world of Kingdom Hearts: the Realm of Light, the Realm of Darkness, and the Realm Between. The vast majority of the worlds exist in the Realm of Light, but a few special worlds exist in the Realm Between (being Traverse Town, Castle Oblivion, Twilight Town, and The World That Never Was). Each world has ties closer to one Realm or the other with the exception of Twilight Town, which exists exactly in the middle. There are no accessible worlds in the Realm of Darkness.

Light and Darkness are two very integral parts to the Kingdom Hearts realm, constantly at war with one another. Even so, there cannot be one without the other: they are interdependent. Generally, Light is considered a sanctuary, while Darkness is considered a nesting ground for evil, especially Heartless. Not all Darkness is bad, however; Riku and a few others have proved this many times. Simply put, it is easier to abuse and therefore, those that use it are more prone to corruption. Following the path of Darkness usually results in becoming a Heartless or Nobody or even bringing about one's own destruction if they are not careful. Nevertheless, Darkness exists in every heart, as does Light. The amount of both varies from person to person, but it is extremely rare to find hearts that are pure Light or Darkness.

Now these world of light and between. What are they like?

Each planet is fairly small, usually consisting of just one country with its own culture, religion, and even time period. Most of these are worlds from various Disney movies, such as Atlantica from the Little Mermaid, China from Mulan, Halloween Town from the Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. Others are worlds made up for the game only, such as Destiny Island, Twilight Town, Radiant Garden, etc. Further detail on the worlds can be found on the list of inhabitable planets right over here. Each planet has an individual ruler but over all the planets are under the protection of King Mickey.

Generally the people of these worlds are very friendly and willing to share their home planets with the outer worlders, so finding a job and a new home shouldn't be too difficult. However, certain worlds may require that you blend into their culture and sometime their species. Luckily, the worlds have the ability to help you blend in. For example: when you land in Atlantica, you will be turned in a Mermaid or other aquatic creature so that you can breath underwater.

King Mickey? As in Mickey Mouse?

Yes. Being a Disney-themed game, it's only natural that the mascot has the highest position. King Mickey and Queen Minnie will be Mod-run NPCs. While they allow each planet to make its own laws and rules according to their individual leaders, the protection and preservation of these planets is up to them. They treasure each and every planet under their care.

What are Heartless and Nobodies?

Glad you asked! The Heartless are creatures from the Realm of Darkness. They are also the manifestation of the darkness found in people's hearts. They thrive off the darkness and will seek to make that darkness in your heart spread until it consumes you and turns you into one of them.

As for Nobodies? They are what's left of the person's body after their heart has been consumed by darkness. Strong-willed people will have a Nobody that looks more human, while weak-willed people who gave into the darkness easily will have a Nobody that looks more like a monster. They are attracted to hearts regardless of how much light or darkness is in it. They wish to be whole again and try to take any heart they can to do so.

How can I fight them? Will I have my powers?

Of course you will have your powers. Although the transport from your world to this one may have weakened them, it's enough to ward off a creature trying to steal your heart. Bear in mind: nothing but a keyblade can officially destroy a Heartless, but you can still hurt a Heartless or Nobody enough to make it disappear and retreat back into the darkness to heal.

If your character is interested in fighting Heartless, they are more than welcome to fill out the form and have Mickey assign them to a world.

The character I want to app has no fighting ability, especially against supernatural things. Is there room in the game for learning how to defend yourself against Heartless? Or would they be limited to non-fighting activities?

Yes, characters will have opportunities to learn how to defend themselves. One place is for the our younger residents. The academy on Destiny Island will have some classes teaching some basic self defense. Students are also allowed to create school clubs, such as kendo club, fencing, or whatever interests your character. As for our older residents, there are places for you to learn too! There are a few places in the Land of Dragons offering martial arts classes and even military training if you think you're up for it.

If this seems a bit too much for your character, some heroes on Olympus have kindly offered to teach a few classes on what they know best about fighting. If magic is more your thing? The moogles are known for turning items dropped by Heartless into useful items, such as spell-casting charms that can cast basic elemental spells. You may want to stop by Merlin's home in Radiant Garden for a few lessons before facing any Heartless, though. Spells can be pretty tricky after all. These items can also be pretty pricey, but well worth the munny. Moogles also are known for making weapons and equipment for all fighting types that your character can purchase.

So long as your character stays within the protection of the main cities, they shouldn't have any trouble with Heartless. Each city is equipped with the finest Heartless defense technology, created by Cid in Radiant Garden.

They are also welcome to fill out the aforementioned form if they still wish to help out without fighting.

(For people unfamiliar with Munny or moogles, there is more on them in the "After arrival" section.)

Can deities (like Hades, Isis, etc.) be applied for?

Yes and no. Direct from the bible or religious text deities cannot be applied for, but Hades from Hercules and Ares from Xena are fine.

What about characters with god-like powers that make them superior to pretty much everyone. Are their powers going to be capped in some way?

Yes, they will be. Being stripped from their world will have stripped some of their powers. The same will go for powers on certain items they have. That means no planet destroying abilities. Other powers that will be restricted are...
ミ☆Instant Death: Usually will result in a one day coma instead of death, and can be tentatively assumed to work against a single target only once. (It can work again on the same character with player permission - this is just to give players an IC reason to explain why they're not simply putting the same character into a coma over and over again). Bear in mind, however, that each world has its own rules or views on death. All worlds will typically result in the item/spell malfunctioning and instead induce the one day coma, the death of your own character, or it will simply fail to work. Halloween Town is the only exception, as it welcomes death with open arms! Something else to keep in mind is that they won't work at ALL in the Olympic Coliseum; death is Hades' turf in that world and his alone.

ミ☆Wish-granting abilities: May be disabled or restricted, depending on their scope.

ミ☆Summoning abilities: May be restricted, depending on their scope. Again, we don't want any world destroying God-like creatures, so the powers will be weakened and if they have any of these listed abilities, the ability will be removed or restricted.

ミ☆Inter dimensional/time travel: Disabled.

ミ☆Mind control/Hypnotisim: May be disabled or restricted, depending on the reasoning or permission given by your fellow mun. Out-right mind control is out. Instead, it will be more like a powerful suggestion or urge to overcome the character, but they will still have the free will to deny it. Hypnotism will usually just result in falling asleep and light hallucinations.

ミ☆Telepathy: May be disabled or restricted, depending on the reasoning or permission given by your fellow mun. They can hear bits and pieces and maybe even pick up on others feelings, but what you can actually hear from the other character will require permission from the mun of said character.

ミ☆Immunity to Illusions/Mental or Emotional Tampering: Allowed, but ineffective against game effects (modplots, etc.)

ミ☆Immunity to Magic: Allowed, but ineffective against game effects (modplots, etc.)

ミ☆Teleportation: Allowed, but limited only to the listed planets. Really, your planets been destroyed. Where the heck else are you gonna go?

ミ☆Mecha: Most will not be allowed, as they do not have hearts to salvage. In the case where they're actual living beings, like in the case of Transformers (who are an alien race who happen to be robots), they'll be allowed. However, things like Gundams and droids will not.

As a whole, you'll be asked to decide how you want your character's powers to be affected on your application and if we feel you're still giving them too much of an advantage, we'll try to work something out with you.

Do I have to have played Kingdom Hearts to be able to understand what's going on here?

Not at all! We wont lie, it might help you understand the setting better, but it's not necessary here unless you are applying for a character from the game itself, obviously.

What if my character dies in the game, is that it? Game over?!

Not at all. The King is aware that all of these people from so many different worlds with all sorts of different customs can become a real problem. The King and Queen fully intend to get all their new subjects back to their homes. This is where the network comes in. Much like how Naminé is able to create whole memories with just a drawing in her notebook and DiZ was able to create a whole world to hold a living person with just his computer, the network devices have the ability to record YOU! That's right, your mouse eared communicators will use the posts you make to record you and your memories so that if your character dies, they'll be brought back. This, of course, comes with repercussions, however. The character won't remember anything past the point of their last network post (which includes comments they made to other character's posts), but the communicators will attempt to record as much of you as it can.

Sadly, your communicator has to be found first, then rebooted for you to return to the worlds. Needless to say, this can take some time. Fortunately for you and your character, there are often helper moogles around, looking for these lost devices. It generally only takes a few days before you get back on your feet (3 days minimum)!

What if a character is dropped?

Then it'll be assumed that their communicator was destroyed. If you drop the character but would like them back, then it'll be assumed that your communicator was just lost, then found by a moogle. If a new person takes the character, that means they were pulled out of the darkness again with no memory of their time here.

I do know Kingdom Hearts and would like to take a character from this fandom that is still living/has died in earlier game/Has only been seen in trailers for new games. Can I?

Of course! For still living characters, the game takes place about 4 months or so after the events of Kingdom Hearts II. Try to think of what that character would have been doing after Sora's last journey. This includes the Disney characters. For characters that have died or are trapped within Sora's heart, we have thought of a loophole for you guys. This means Organization XIII members, 365 Days characters, and even Birth by Sleep characters. Now, the method for pulling people out of the darkness has yet to be perfected, so on rare occasions it'll pull people from their worlds, but at a time prior to its destruction. What can we say? Time and space are pretty tricky things. Their memory and essence will be saved to a communicator just like everyone else and they'll be free to live a life like the others. Just keep your communicator safe!

This also applies for people who would like to apply for a character who have died in other fandoms.

As for characters only seen in trailers? We will not be accept them. Not enough is known about them to make an acceptable application.

What's the deal on apping Organization XIII Nobodies and their Somebodies?

You may apply for both! The only criteria we have for the Somebodies, however, is that they are actually present in one of the games and that they have a personality to base a decent application off of. This means applying for something like Marluxia's Somebody would be off limits as we know little to nothing about him.

Also, if someone already has a character's Nobody in the game, you ARE allowed to apply for their Somebody and vice versa!

What else are these communicators for?

Lots of things! Not only can they save your character's very existence, they connect to the network so you can keep in touch with all the other characters on any planet. They have maps of each world and also work as translators for the languages of all the planets and the worlds that have been destroyed. Basically, if you have your communicator with you, no matter where you are, the people will sound like they're talking in a language you can understand and you will be understood in return. These devices are very important, so take care of them.

Do you allow Original Characters?

At this time, no. We are not accepting original characters.

What's the policy on AU characters and duplicates?

They're fine so long as their history is different from the original character. For example, we will allow both Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 and Kingdom Hearts but we will not allow Cloud from Dissidia since FF!Cloud and Dissidia!Cloud have the exact same backgrounds and are technically from the same world. They would essentially be the same character and would make things even more confusing. In short: no, you may not play the Dissidia version of a character, and no, they will not remember what happened during Dissidia. We're okay with you adding Dissidia to their history and maybe feeling familiar with characters they've met via Dissidia, but again: they will not remember what happened DURING the war. The ONLY exception to this rule are the FF1 characters, as their canon is built into Dissidia itself.

As for something like Sakura from Tsubasa and Sakura from Card Captors, we would allow both since their backgrounds and characters are completely different from one another. Canon A.U.s only! No original AU characters please, as they loosely fall under the O.C. category.

As for Disney characters? If you would like to apply for a Disney character that has been in the games, we ask that you apply as the one from the game. Really, they aren't too different from the originals, they just have memories of meeting Sora. We wont allow doubles on these, since it would be far too confusing and essentially they are the same characters.

Is NC-17 content (violence or sex) permitted?!

Yes, while the over all feel of the game is going to be light and a little comical, we will allow darker material. Just lock anything over a PG-13 rating (whether it's for sex or violence) and slap on a warning. This game is also het, yaoi and yuri-friendly. That said, we don't want the game's focus to be on shipping and smut, so if it goes too far in that direction, we'll have to act.

What kind of characters can I apply for?

Any book, Video game, most animes, comic and tv character. Real people and web comics. We also wont allow characters from non-sequential (Family guy, sponge-bob, ect.)fandoms and some sitcoms. We understand the line between crack and Disney's talking animals can be a little blurry, but some things just wont fit into the games setting. In this case, we have to think about whether or not a fandom would be fit to participate in a war, whether or not they can fight or can learn how to fight, because that's pretty much what's going on here. We're a light-hearted game, definitely, but we're also trying to give the game an appropriate level of seriousness that just doesn't work well with some fandoms. . If you're still not sure, then ask a mod.

Are there any other requirements?

Yes, it's required that you take up a character that is intelligent enough to use a cellphone. They don't have to know how to use it right way, but they need to learn, considering use of the communicators is very important. They are not only what keeps your character connected to other players, but they're also what keeps them alive.

♕A whole new world...

How does my character get here?

Your world was destroyed or you were pulled out before the actual destruction. Whatever the reason, you came through the Darkness and woke up here. When you arrive, you will wake up somewhere in Traverse Town. You may wander around a bit, but eventually a moogle will greet you and hand you 1000 munny, a communicator, and a hotel room key. They may attempt to explain what has happened as well, that's up to you.

What about money, jobs, currency, etc?

The currency of the worlds is called Munny (pronounced mun-nee) and jobs are fairly easy to come by. Some of the worlds of light have suffered heavy damage from the war against darkness, so they are always looking for helping hands with restoration, but the easy way to earn money is by hunting. Heartless and Nobodies are just a constant pain on all the worlds, but as big of a pest as they are, they do tend to drop very valuable items when wounded. While this is a very dangerous job, there is no law against it and the various items and materials they drop can fetch a very nice price at moogle-owned shops.

Now, you wont become instantly rich from it, but it's enough to keep you quite comfortable over time. The more difficult the Heartless or Nobody, the better the items they drop. Moogles are always looking for help from brave hunters. If your character isn't much of a fighter, there are still plenty of jobs out there. The Restoration Committee is always looking for help and the moogles could always use a helping hand with giving new worlders tours and explaining to them just what's going on.

We'd also like to add, that currency from the outer worlds does not transfer into munny, so you will be starting from scratch.

Moogles? What are those?

Moogles can be found on every planet, usually running shops, selling equipment and potions to hunters, while others are helpers of the king. They can usually be found leading tours to groups of new comers or out helping lost out worlders. Like people, each one has its own individual personality. Some can be very kind and helpful, while others might be cranky, but regardless of their personality, they are there to help. They are also going to be the ones giving updates on any events or happenings in various worlds over the network.

Can my character start a business/own property/begin an organization?

Yes, of course. Just keep in mind that it will take time for them to earn enough money to open a business. All characters will only appear in this world with the clothes on their backs and anything in their pockets. Still, if you've been here awhile and your character has enough connections, then go for it! Just let us know here what you're planning to do, just so we can make sure it doesn't conflict with any future mod plans.

As for owning a house, that's fine. You don't have to ask a mod for that, just keep it realistic. Houses cost munny, so it'll take time to own your own.

What about housing? Where will I live?

They will lead you to the hotel in town and that place will be your home for the next two months. After two months, you will either have to pay for the room yourself or find yourself a home. This applies only to character 18 and over.

For characters 17 and younger, you will have a dorm room at the Destiny Island Academy. The Destiny Islands are one of the safest worlds out there, so it will be the home of our younger residents without any guardians or parents to care for them.

Destiny Island Academy? You mean my younger character is forced to stay on one planet?!

Of course not. The school is just a place to stay for underage characters who can't financially support themselves. If they feel are able to fend for themselves, then they will not be forced to stay at the school, but are welcome to come back at anytime if it doesn't work out. There will be classes to teach them some basic things they'd need to know about these new worlds, life in general and even some self defense classes for youngsters that wish to learn how to defend themselves. There are uniforms to be worn during class time, but after class you're free to do as you please.

It's all optional and students have the option of going out and getting their own places to live if they choose not attend to the school at all, but after your character has been here for two months, their room at the hotel will no longer be paid for regardless of their age, so they'll have to move out. If your younger character has a parent or guardian applied to the game and they wish to live with them, but still attend classes at the school, that is fine as well!

Although your character is free to come and go as they please, students 14 and under are not permitted to leave the school grounds after 11P.M. for safety issues. After all, Heartless are quite active at night.

There's mention of missions and running shops for characters to do, but what about children? What kind of opportunities do they have to interaction and things like that?

Children who appear without a parent or guardian are a big concern for the king and as such, he has done his best to provide them with a safe place to stay until their loved ones are found or until their homes are restored. Still, sitting around at school can get pretty dull. Children are free to start up school clubs if they like and they can also provide help at moogle shops or part-time jobs. There are always opportunities open to help with the Restoration Committee and lots of the worlds enjoy a good party, so feel free to help out with some of the bashes!

For suggestions you can check out the help wanted post and even fill out the form for a job that may appeal to you.

How do we travel from one world to another?

In Kingdom Hearts, the characters would travel from one world to another with the use of Gummi ships. They are essentially space ships fueled on smiles and happy thoughts. This is how you will be traveling around as well. Each planet will have its own Gummi ship station, which will look a bit like a train station. All stations have Gummi ships going to different worlds at different times. If your character gets sick of the public transportation, they may save up and build/buy a Gummi ship of their very own.

♕The Game

How are the communities used?

star_kingdom - This journal will act as the network. It allows network posts, including TEXT, AUDIO and VIDEO posts. TEXT is the default, and if something is not labeled otherwise, assume it is text. Private/filtered or public posts are allowed. Though if a comment stream leads into an action post, it's fine. This will also be used as a bulletin board for advertisements, story hints, etc. Usable by mods for plot hints ad news or by players for whatever they'd like to post on a big wall in the middle of a town.

starkingdomlogs - For all in-person meetings, including both action posts and full logs.

starkingdom_ooc - The OOC community! For intros, announcements, plotting, and anything else you'd like to talk about OOC.

star_crack - Well for pretty much what it sounds like. Silly stuff you'd like to rp but just wouldn't fit in the game and this is also the place for memes! Memes should be posted once every two weeks. Nothing on the crack comm is considered to happen in game--but players can easily decide to play out an idea on here in game if it so fits. The rules are: there are no rules, but we'd like anything NSFW to be behind a cut and of course no race/gender/sexual orientation bashing. Just be respectful to others is all we ask.

My character wants to study or harness some of the Heartless. Can they do that?

They can study them if they wish and maybe even find a job in the castle trying to help figure out how to stop them. As for harnessing their powers? They can try, but there are, of course, laws against this and if they are found out, there will be in-game consequences. Any progress in these studies and harnessing attempts will have to be discusses with a mod, of course. Heartless are drawn to people with a lot of darkness in their hearts, so for a time characters can even control weaker heartless, but this control is unstable and eventually the Heartless will try to remove this dark heart.

How does time flow in this game?

24 hours in real life = 24 hours ingame.

Is there a character limit?

To start with, the character limit is 5. After 4 AC checks, if you've managed to keep all 5 active, you may apply for another one. If, after another 4, you kept all 6 active, then you can apply for another and so on until you hit 8. That is the set limit.

How many characters can I take from one fandom?

The limit is two characters from the same fandom. This is to prevent people from taking over a single fandom and leave some characters for the rest of the players! But, players can only have three Final Fantasy characters. Even if the ones you pick are from different games. This includes having an FF character from the Kingdom Hearts universe.

We know a game like this tends to spark the interests of a lot of your Final Fantasy muses, but this decision was made to keep muns from piling up on FF muses and leaving little for potential applicants to pick from. We also hope that by doing this we can keep a good balance between the amount of FF characters and non-FF characters.

How often are modplots run?

We will aim to have a plot or event up twice a month, but this may vary depending on the plot itself and the interest it stirs in the players or mod availability.

I'm a player, and I'd like to suggest a plot!

First, do you mean a plot that affects you and maybe a few other players or do you mean a plot that acts almost like a mod-event and affects a wide range of people?

If it's the former, you wont need to contact. Stories that involve you and whoever signs up for it and have no real repercussions on the game a a whole are fine. Unless you need to create property damage or otherwise raise a spectacle (or it involves something that inherently requires mod permission, like a canon update, or a character's torture, death or rape), feel free to do what you like.

If it's a more wide-ranging plot then is it a plot that you would like to run yourself, or do you have an idea for a possible modplot? In either case, you must talk to us before bringing it to the OOC community. This is important, because if it's a plot that we wouldn't approve, or a plot that we would approve but are already planning in some form, it'll be very awkward to have to say no after you've already brought it up to everyone.

What is involved in proposing a possible gamewide player-run plot?

We'd like a walk-through of events you've, like the beginning, the general plot, and how you'd expect it to end. Any game wide plot ideas send directly to us via PM to prevent spoilers if we like it!

I want to bring in an item or monster from my character's fandom that doesn't exist in any of the established worlds. Can I do that?

You will have to fill out a form letting us know what the item is and why you would like your character to have it, but generally we'll allow it. It isn't uncommon for things from other worlds to randomly appear here. Just keep in mind that when your character arrives, they will only have on them what they had at the point you've applied them from.

Is it possible to canon update my character?

Yes. However, canon updating have to work differently here, considering the character's world has been consumed into another realm. Rather than being sent home, your character will experience an extremely vivid, realistic dream. This can take place over one night or several nights, depending on how you would like to play it. The character will then wake up with all the knowledge of their canon self at the point to which they're being updated.

This dream is realistic enough that they are left genuinely affected by their experience, but they may or may not (your choice!) be certain that it was an actual experience. They may just think it was simply a dream or something caused by whatever current event is happening in game, until a canon mate confirms your character's suspicions.

Any physical changes to the character from the canon-update (for example, if the character grew wings or lost an eye) can be handled in any of a number of ways as per player discretion - perhaps they wake up with/without those things, or maybe they just feel phantom pain? It's up to you! Just please let us know what you intend to do.

Mod permission is required to do this.

How do tags work here?

When posting or commenting on the Network or Log community, please use [Fandom] firstname lastname. Tag creation is enabled for all members. Please do this, it makes things MUCH easier come AC time.

Is there an OOC chat?

Yes, starkingdom on AIM. When used correctly, a chat can be a great way of getting to know your fellow players and brainstorming for plots and CR. But when abused it's a breeding ground for wank and cliquishness, both of which are frowned upon here.

That said, starkingdom will be the the chatroom for the game and its players, but the mods aren't going to be chat police. Unless it's a matter of hatespeech or bragging about breaking a game rule, we probably won't get involved.

That said, we do have a couple of rules. Anything plot rather than CR-related MUST be posted on the OOC board (and run by the mods, if necessary. If it's not something that affects the world as a whole or extends beyond the characters involved, you should be fine.). Remember that not everyone has AIM and we don't like people feeling left out because they aren't in chat. We also don't want people who don't like chatroom to not have any plot going! Also if a person does have AIM, don't bug them to sign on or to join chat. Sending invites is fine, but if they don't respond, don't keep sending them. Sometimes people are online just to do other things. If there's anyone who doesn't know how to invite themselves to a chat, just let us know and we'll be happy to explain it. So now that you have read all the F.A.Q.s, we'd like you to read through the Rules as well for the other item we'd like you to add to your application. Once you have read them and have both pieces, then you can answer "Yes" to the question at the bottom of the application and add the word Paopu somewhere discreetly in your application.

Wait, I still have a question!

Just comment here with the word "Question" in the subject and we'll get back to you soon as we can!
