There's not much that's new and exciting around here. I'm still trying to get the house, etc in order before the baby comes. Other than that, it's kind of the same old stuff.

We attempted to go to a family reunion in Long Island this past Saturday with my mother-in-law's family. Well, I used the word attempted because we never made it there. My husband was very leary about me going. He's getting nervous now and was concerned that we'd be too far from home if I all of a sudden went into labor. We made a game time decision and I felt fine, so I went. We drove the 45 minutes up to my in-law's and picked them up. Then we headed out for Long Island. 3 hours later we were still more than an hour away and stuck in all kinds of traffic. That's when my husband said it was time to give up and just turn around. The ride should have taken about an hour and a half. No big deal. But, not on Saturday. We sat in the same spot for over an hour and weren't more than 15 miles from home. It was ridiculous! I didn't complain about turning around. Sitting that long in one position and having a baby crushing your bladder while in a confined space with my mother-in-law...not a good combination. So, we turned around and we all went out for Japanese hibachi. I love Japanese food, so it all worked out well for me. My mother-in-law was disappointed that we didn't get to see her family, but between my husband, my father-in-law, and I...we were more than happy to just go out for dinner.

Next weekend will be my last trip that is more than an hour away from home. My whole family is meeting in Ocean City to celebrate my grandma's 80th birthday. From here to Ocean City is just under 2 hours. But again, it will be a game time decision. If I feel even a little bit off, we're staying home. The last thing I need to deliver this baby on the side of the Garden State Parkway.

I don't think the baby will come this early, but you never know. I've been having what they call Braxton-Hicks contractions for weeks now. It's totally normal and are really just practice contractions that get your body ready for the real thing. Generally, these kind of contractions don't hurt at all and just feel like your stomach muscles are tightening up (sort of like a muscle spasm). Well, I've had a few in the last week that have been noticeably stronger than the usual ones. Again, totally normal but it's a sign that things are moving forward. I'm going to bring it up to my doctor tomorrow. Tomorrow is also the doctor's appointment that they start to check for early signs of labor. So, we'll see what happens.

Also next weekend my husband and I will be attending Baptism class. Yeah, it sounds like it's a bit premature. But, in order to have the baby Christened, we have to go to this prep-class. And, this is the last one they will be running until after Easter. The church doesn't do Christenings during Lent, so the next available time wouldn't be until mid-April at least. The baby will be at least 5 or 6 months old by then and we don't want to wait that long. By getting the class in now, we can do the Christening sometime in late January or early Feb.
