Little Show Off

I had another doctor's appointment last night. At this point, I have to go every 4 weeks. It was just a quick check up, no big deal. The doctor used a doppler to listen to the baby's heartbeat. It's a just a little hand-held microphone type thing that they put on your belly. I am now 13 weeks 2 days and officially in the 2nd trimester. The doctor warned me before she started that depending on the position of the baby, it may be hard to find the heartbeat this early...if they find it at all. Right now the baby is only about 3 inches long and is surrounded by tons of fluid, sometimes they don't hear it using the doppler until around 14 weeks (although we heard it at 7, 9, and 12 weeks using an ultrasound). A doppler isn't as high tech. Well anyway, the baby was apparently front and center waiting for show time. She found the heartbeat immediately with no problem. The doctor was actually surprised.

She also gave me a bit of a lecture about my weight gain. I gained 6 lbs. since my last visit and they like you to keep it under 5 lbs. I honestly didn't think it was possible for me to gain anything. The last few weeks have been horrible with morning sickness. I've literally been living on fruit and the occasional bowl of chicken soup. But, to defend myself a little, the last week was little out of the ordinary. We were so busy last week with appointments, work, and everything else we ate out a lot. Plus, we went to a graduation party and went out again to celebrate our anniversary. I'm sure that didn't help. I also probably shouldn't have eaten spaghetti an hour before I got weighed. I'll have to do better next time, but I'm not too worried.
