My area was lucky to avoid the worst impact of Storm Eunice, and I was able to work at home - it would have been good to have that during bad weather in pre-Covid years. The main work programs went down in the middle of the day, but I could still do some useful things and chat to my colleagues via Teams. In the evening the wind died down and I attended the birdwatching club's meeting with a talk on Scottish islands.
Unfortunately the storm meant that I couldn't travel to West Wales yesterday as planned. Instead I did a bit of shopping and admired the view over town from the cemetery when the sky cleared at sunset. I packed my bag ready to set off this morning, but the trains were still disrupted. The disappointment was eased by an invitation to meet up with my old schoolfriend Becky, and we got together despite more transport problems. We caught up over hot drinks and cakes, wandered around town in rain and gusts, and amused her one-year-old son by pretending to sneeze.
Now my family is all together at my parents' house, ready for the traditional February celebration, and I will go out at dawn tomorrow and try my hardest to join them.
