Interactive Journals

I do interactive journals with my class, which are great because it is a little way for me to talk with each of my students each week. Or...at least the students who turn them in.
Some gems from this week:

Dear Mrs. Wunschel,

Be sure that you are kind to Nick, even after a hard day at work!

(we've been talking about kindness in class)

Dear Mrs. Wunschel,

Thanks for your help on my story, it is done now. Do you have any friends?

(from a young man who struggles with getting and keeping friends)

Dear Mrs. Wunschel,

Why do you always look at me like I've done something evil when I am talking to my friends?

(because you are planning evil things, of course...this is one of the boys that tried to convince Nick that I was dating Mr. Nish)

To summarize: I would be nice to Nick, but he is not here tonight. If I had friends nearby I would call them and ask them to go to the "almond festival" with me. I'm not sure what its all about but there are rides, frozen lemonades and traffic so it must be awesome. I will also attempt not to glare at evil-doers in my class because it makes them feel picked on.

Today I went for my Saturday morning walk. I decided to follow the canal trail west instead of east and ended up having to walk 4.8 miles because there are no streets that go all the way through on that side of town. I must have been too relaxed because I could barely get my heart rate above 125, I think the average for the walk was 128, when normally I average 144. I blame the swimming. Actually, everything that is wrong with me I'm going to blame on swimming. I don't see the connection to procrastination, but it is there somewhere.
In truth, I'm lovin' it (there you go McD's $1) I wake up early and babble like a giddy school girl. Actually, like 7 giddy school girls, I sound almost as bad as my classroom before school. I'm not quite as bad as 7 giddy school boys, but I will get there.
