Got my Marriott room for Dragon*Con 2010! HUZZAH!
I booked it for Thursday-Tuesday so perhaps I can either actually see some of the Monday panels or spend more time saying goodbye to everyone.
I did try to get another room for Th-Mon but all the Thursday rooms were booked within 15 minutes. I can't believe the Marriott just doesn't open up ALL their rooms from Thursday through Tuesday...at least on the Th. end of things. Everyone I know gets in on Thursday for registration, especially since panels start at 10:00am on Friday.
Someone at Dragon*Con needs to give the Marriott management a good talking to!
Bad News is that Ilan's comic book store might be going under. Actually, it currently IS going under and he's looking for either a rent reduction where he is at (ain't gonna happen) or to find a smaller, cheaper place to rent (probably doubtful). He has me typing up a letter to his landlord stating that at the current rent he can no longer afford to stay where he is at and will vacate the premises after March 31, 2010. The only other option is that he buy this old bar that's for sale about 1/2 mile from where his current store is. Don't particularly care for that option but I guess this is a good time to buy with the market being low. Don't really know if it's low for businesses though - I certainly do hope so!
Timing totally sucks as Rachel will be going to college in the Fall. I won't push her, but I hope she picks something in-state or fairly close and inexpensive. She's smart but has no extra-curricular activities and I doubt she'll qualify for any scholarships. We'll look though! We do have money saved up in her college fund. Doubt it'll last for 4 years of schooling though.
Even worse: I may have to give up attending Dragon*Con 2010! *gasp* (I know! Horrible, isn't it!!!) I really won't know for at least 6 months how things stand. While I do have the hotel money saved up, I still have to price airfare, food, registration costs. And I was really looking forward to having at least one new outfit made for me. Guess I'll be a Mundane most of the time, unless I can slap together something cheap.
SO: If you the praying type, please pray that things work out for Ilan & his store for the best ("the best" being great location, cheap rent, paying customers) and that Rachel applies to colleges before she's 30 and get accepted. Slaughter a goat, fast, meditate...I'll take whatever you have to offer up!
Come Hell or High Water, I DO plan to get to ALEP 2 in September 2011, even if I have to fly on an eagle to get there.
