Oof!  It's been a day...

To begin with, I've been staying up too late for several nights, and thus had a great deal of difficulty dragging my butt out of bed at all, let alone early, so I called in that I would be late to work.  I dug yesterday's clothes out of the laundry and went out to chip the ice off the car, and then, since I was already burning leave, decided to take advantage of that and have a leisurely shower and cuppa before I actually headed for work.  I also took the opportunity to scatter a bunch of valentines around the house for dr_zrfq to find after he got up!

Getting out of the development was a bit of an adventure - more than I'd hoped, but less than I'd feared.  Our road had not yet been plowed (no surprise at all there), but apart from a little difficulty getting away from the curb until I shovelled around the front tires (I'd forgotten that solid precipitation sometimes piles up enough to impede movement), I suffered no incident.  I did, however, have a few worries that I might become one, because I was tailgated all the way out until I reached the main road.  I was greatly relieved when he turned in the opposite direction there!

I knew I was going to have to take the long way to work today, but the trip was made longer still by a momentary brainfart on the way.  I had forgotten that there was no longer a traffic light at my intersection; it's an interchange now, so I missed the exit because I wasn't looking for it, and had to turn around and come back for another try.  Fortunately the office park roads were in better shape than my development, and I even found a space in the parking lot, right at the front entrance!  (Usually I park on the street, because I can get closer to the employee entrance that way.)

Leaving the office park put me in an extremely unaccustomed frame of mind.  I'm one of those ultra-conservative drivers when the roads go white - so you know things had to be bad to leave me cursing someone for being over-cautious!  This fool pulled out of the side street so slowly that I nearly had to stop completely to avoid hitting her.  And then, since the inbound side of the road was almost completely dry (having had the benefit of chemicals carried in from the main road by tires all day), she chose to drive on that side - the wrong side of the road! - at maybe 15 mph, in a 35 zone!  I stayed on the correct side of the road (which, while plowed, still had a significant amount of white stuff and ruts left), debated with myself for all of maybe three nanoseconds, and then put my foot down and passed her so I wouldn't have to follow her all the way out.

I had been praying all day that our street had been plowed, but discovered that although it had, there was still noplace for me to park near home.  dr_zrfq and killernurd were still digging out the curb and driveway from the detritus of the plowing, so I went a little farther to check out the parking lot at the school across the street.  Completely untouched!  That left me with no choice but to drive down the hill we not-so-fondly refer to as Mount Tabscott (the street is Tabscott Drive) - which fortunately had been thoroughly sanded - and park in the shopping center lot.  And then I had to pick up all my schtuff and hoof it back up Mount Tabscott...  The wind was sufficiently cold and dry that I was having a lot of trouble breathing by the time I got home, so I didn't even offer to help dr_zrfq and killernurd dig; I just went in and started cooking supper.

After that was well in hand, I headed for my computer and discovered the news post, which mentioned a new Valentine-themed style.  Since I had already been looking for one earlier (with no success!), I promptly switched over to it, and spent a while tweaking it to suit me better.  :)

And now I've just noticed what time it is and realized I'm not going to have any better luck getting up tomorrow...  Right!  Bedtime!  Now!
