I turned in my last final yesterday which means today is a mad scramble to get everything packed to leave. My parents arrive on May 1, we pack the car on May 2, they leave, I stay for one more night and leave on May 3. I'll probably stay one day in New Jersey to get settled and then leave for DC on May 5, just to visit people for graduation. I have a ton of friends graduating - Tim, Aleda, Tom, Nick, Stoner, Alex, etc. etc. The better way to do this is to say who's NOT graduating - Debbie, Pete, Ryan, Mel... ummm, that's it. My number of friends is going from 40 to 4 instantly.
So. Stay in DC May 5 to May 8 sleeping... somewhere. Then head back to New Jersey for a few days. May 13 drive to Albany to pick up Emer and possibly go to court (I sent a letter asking for a reduced violation saying I'd plead guilty to it and we'd both avoid court, hope he accepts), then May 14 drive to Watkins Glen then Cleveland for Emer's brother's graduation. Stay until May 16 then drive down to DC. Crash on couches and wherever until June 1 when I move into the brand-spanking-new apartment! With Debbie, Pete, and Ryan, 3/4 of the friends I'll have left! So word.
I am very much looking forward to when this month is over. For a good 17 nights or so I will have no place to go home to but then my apartment is going to KICK ASS. Sweet location, huge house, even has a friggin' backyard! It's sweet, four bedrooms, two living rooms, two (full) bathrooms, kitchen, washer/dryer next store, two parking spaces, just a sweet place. It's kind of a hike from school meaning I'm going to try and get a commuter tag for me auto. The drive itself is five minutes, just that walking it would be more like 25 minutes and I am lazy.
Small explanation oh why DC kind of sucks: a lot of the "action" in DC is centered along the main roads, meaning if you're not near a main road, it's pretty residential (in my area, just plain suburban). This apartment will be one block from Wisconsin Ave, a main road, meaning one block from a TON of stuff. Two blocks from The Malt Shoppe where I'm never charged more than $5 no matter how much I drink, two blocks from Steak n' Egg, home to some of the greasiest food you will EVER have, two blocks from Safeway, the grocery store, one block from Casa Fiesta, the best Mexican place in DC, two blocks from a Metro station, I'm just... set.
Question one, what to do with the parents? I think I'mma take them to McKibbin's 'cause my pops loves burgers and they have the best I've had, plus a healthy selection of beeh's on tap. But what else? My parents are more of the relaxing kind, so we very well might just chill here watching Hockey Night in Canada. Haha, maybe I should take them to Peel Pub! For the Canadiens game (if they stay alive)! They would never be the same!
I've been called a bandwagoner because I like the Flames. You know when I first started liking the Flames? July 30, 2003 - when Krzysztof Oliwa signed with them. Anybody who knows me at all knows I LOVE Oliwa to death. So wherever he is, chances are I have a spot in my heart for them. Sure when he was on the Rangers I didn't care much, but Flames? Rule. Plus I LOVE Mike Commodore, I love how he gathers the puck behind the net and looks out - he has that Jay Pandolfo uber-stoned face. Rule. And Iginla? The more I learned about Iginla, with all his charity work, plus the fact that he's one of the best players in the game but he still fights - in the playoffs no less - earns a million bonus points in my book.
Last night taught me why I don't like either the Leafs or the Flyers. They're the type of teams where I watch them a few games and don't think they're that bad but then on the fourth or fifth game I'm reminded of why I don't like them. I like clean hockey! Fight all you want (please?) but no cheapshots and, sorry Flannery, both sides were taking cheapshots. No good.
Last night, it was 6:40, so I had two choices. I had to go to the grocery store and the dep. I could do it then, getting back in at around 7:05, just before the puck dropped. Or I could wait til 7:00 and then go, getting back at 7:25 and missing half of a period. So what did I do? I left at 7:00. Just to hear the Hockey Night in Canada music.
Funny thing is, that's one of the things I will miss the most about Montreal.
