MONTREAL QUEERS: CALL-OUT FOR FRIDAY

It was Friday January 21st 16:15, and the southeast corner of Saint Denis and Mont-Royal was still basking in the last of the setting sun. Two lesbians who had been walking hand in hand down Mont-Royal were stopped at the corner waiting to head north on Saint Denis. Just before the light changed they stepped towards each other to steal a quick kiss before crossing the street, when from out of nowhere someone smashed the back of one of their heads with such force that it rammed into the head of the other in a head butt, leaving both girls stunned and confused. One was left with split skin on her forehead and a painful bump. The other was not as fortunate; her injury immediately started spurting blood. A blood that ran so fast it had time to run down the sidewalk before hardening on the frozen ground.

Over the noise of the gathering crowd they could hear each other asking what had happened, each realizing but not wanting to say "we've just been gay bashed.". The ambulance arrived and brought the two girls to the hospital. The doctor confirmed what they had known immediately: the blow from her girlfriend's head that had been forced into hers broke her nose.

Montreal, a place where alternative lifestyles might be given equality at the altar in the near future. but wait, aren't we getting ahead of ourselves, when kissing in the street still isn't safe? Join these two girls at the corner of Mont-Royal and St-Denis next Friday, January 28th at 16:15 for a "kiss in" where they'll take back the corner!
