From what I understand of Quebec City is that it tends to understand the tourist industry better then Montreal and are generally bilingual. I also expect there will be several taxis at the airport.

I, however, cannot speak for reservations or reputation.

QC City is not all that different from Mtl - taxis are plentiful and drivers know when planes arrive and such. People are even more likely to be bilingual there (it's not like she's landing in the middle of Mongolia!) and even if not, surely she can write the address on a piece of paper and hand it to the driver?

i guess i am worrying a bit too much! it's good to know that there will be a number of bilingual taxi drivers--i really don't know much about the situation in QC, as you can tell. thanks for your input.

i live in quebec city right now and have worked with the language immersion programs at ulaval... the tourist industry doesnt guarantee bilingualism but in terms of cabs, she will be fine if she just says 'université laval' - it will help to look at a campus map beforehand if she already knows what pavillion she needs to be at. if you have any more questions you can feel free to ask :)

Just look at it as an opportunity for growth. Unless she never ever intends to leave the country, odds are she'll encounter much more exotic/confusing/scary/why-the-hell-did-I-ever-wanna-come-to-this-place situations after coming out of one of them metal birdies ;)

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any guarantee with any cab service that the drivers will be bilingual.

I'd recommend just getting a cab in the taxi-line outside the airport. They all have a special license to be there, so it's safe. There may be airport staff directing the line who could help her out if there are communication problems. She can also write the address down on paper, as Fuzzyila suggested. That method has worked for me in other countries, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work here.

Most cab companies aren't sketchy at all. The only thing that may happen is that the cabby might take a long route, but if she elects for the set fare from the airport, she should be ok.
