I'm looking for full-time French classes to take this summer. I know some French but it's too basic to get me anywhere here! I know there are little places here and there around the city that offers lessons but I don't know if any of them are good. Also, I remember hearing about a program to learn French through the government here that is less ( Read more... )

I don't know of anything myself but your question looked like something that someone might ask frequently in this community so I dove into the Tags section of this community and found a bunch of stuff. Have a look.

I am actually looking for something similar myself and will also be spending the next hour exploring the community looking for classes :)
Happy hunting!

I found this list of schools where french classes are offered. http://www.csdm.qc.ca/EducationAdultes/Programmes/FrancaisLangueSeconde.aspx
Maybe you will find it useful?

It really blows my mind that a lot of the sites I come across advertising courses for french as a second language or french for immigrants etc are 100% IN FRENCH. It baffles me really.

Yeah, that one gives me no end of entertainment, especially since those particular classes (which both I and my boyfriend have taken) are really geared to people who are true beginners in French and can barely speak the language.

All the language classes I've ever taken were all 100% in that language, because if the teacher lets you fall back on your mother tongue, then even without wanting to do it, every time you'll be struggling to find a word, you'll end up saying it in english or whatever. Beginner class teachers arent stupid tho and they know that the students probably don't understand all/a lot and they mime and draw a lot until they can figure it out for themselves.

But the point here is for the websites to only be in French, not the class.
(Any decent language teacher knows to only use the targeted language no matter what!)
