Yesterday I turned 40. It was fantastic! I got to work and my cubicle was decorated with streamers and signs and flowers. I took a picture but it doesn't want to leave my phone so I'll try to bring a camera in tomorrow. Someone made cupcakes and several people brought in dark chocolate. Yum! No singing. I draw the line there. Oh, and there was this toy dog under my desk that started to roll around and laugh hysterically when it sensed motion. Freaked. Me. Out! But I laughed long and hard with it. I have some interesting friends at work.
It felt like everyone in the company made their way to my cubicle. Birthday wishes, and people gasping for air when I told them I was 40. Very few people look at me and think I'm that old. Which is going to be in my favor as I age, but when I was drinking age and no one believed my ID wasn't fake, I didn't like looking younger then. LOL! Amazing what time and perspective does for a person.
A took dog duty for me so when I got home from work all I had to do was open cards and gifts that had arrived in the mail, talk to some friends on the phone and relax. He then took me out to a local pub for dinner. I think they have a new cook because the food wasn't up to their normal standards but it was still nice to tip a pint and enjoy some lovely fish and chips.
We got home and A gave me a gift card for a spa day (omg!!!) and some guided journals on spirituality I had been wanting but haven't gotten around to purchasing. A foot rub and some TV (my choice!) later and it was time for the annual call from my parents. They are doing well, though Dad will be having surgery in April to remove a tumor from a kidney. Prayers would be most appreciated.
The celebration doesn't end here. I will be going out with friends this weekend and next weekend to celebrate and A and I will be going out with some very dear friends the first weekend in April to a wonderful tavern out on a lake near us.
Turning 40 has been great so far. As I stated in my earlier post, I've been looking forward to this for some time. It's on to a new decade filled with wonderful things just waiting to be experienced!
