I'm not sure if this counts as meta (it's certainly navel-gazy), but I've been thinking a lot about how there seem to be several trajectories than fans tend to follow as time goes on--one being an increasing sense of isolation or disconnection from fandom. I remember seeing posts like that from fans who'd been around a long time when I was a newbie and not having any idea what they were talking about, but now I'm feeling that way myself. I've been struggling with how to maintain ties and a sense of belonging, and I thought I might talk about some possible reasons fans feel this way and what can possibly be done to reconnect. I guess this sounds more like a personal essay, but IDK. What do y'all think?
*raises hand of interest* I'm going through something similar myself, so I'd love to see an essay/discussion about it. (Frankly, just seeing it listed as a possible topic is nice, so consider this a vote of support but no pressure. *g*)
Thanks for letting me know. I think a lot of fans go through this kind of situation, and it can be hard to know how to handle it or feel about it. I'm almost 100% positive I will write about this now. :)
I was just reading through the suggestions before signing up and I have to chime in for this as well. This is basically my last year of fandom. It's been really weird and I'm looking forward to what you end up writing.
I hope you'll share your experience with us in the comments to the post; I'm hoping to get a lot of conversation going because it's something I'm still struggling with.
